Welcome to Japan

I\'m currently starting a Diorama which is set in Japan. Now for the base I\'m looking for something that says \"You\'re in Japan\", but is not too hard to model or too dominant in the scene. I thought about this, but it goes against the rules I just set up :D

My alternative idea is to make a sign that says \"Welcome to Japan\", but that seems a little ridiculous to me. On the other hand, the basic idea behind my diorama is ridiculous too :D

Along the same lines as NSA\'s but a littler simpler (and easier to make ;) ):

about bamboos, like stupidcow did on his last mini ?
I no it\'s not really japan specifique, but it does make me think of japan none the less.

Thanks everyone, great stuff here. I think I\'ll try to model one of those... gate... thingies... whatever they are called. Bamboo is not bad, but I have no idea how to model it to scale. Fuji with sunrise is a no, I want it incorporated into the surroundings. Bansi trees I have never heard of.

I think I\'ll go with that... thingy PLUS the sign \"Welcome to Japan\" plus my three minis....

*slaps his own head*

I\'m an idiot. I was honestly searching for about an hour, using google, trying to find ANYTHING about Bansi trees.

@ Mosch - well, at least you weren\'t trying to find info on \"banzai\" trees. :D

Here\'s a couple of other ideas I thought of, some easy, some can be made to be complicated ^_^

- Rock garden
- Koi pond
- Bamboo water things (I have no idea what they\'re called, but they usually are placed in rock and normal gardens)
- mini or normal sized torii (sp? those arch things ^_^) like the pictures shown
- outdoor shrines
- sakura trees or fallen sakura blosssoms
- Raised outdoor walkways for buildings and rice paper doors

...I\'m assuming the diorama is outdoors? Hehe...guess I should\'ve been clear on that before I started listing things.

Thanks. Yeah, the Diorama is outdoors - by the way, the items don\'t really have to be serious, the whole diorama is, as Finn would say, \"tongue-in-cheek\". It\'s OK if it ends up cluttered and chaotic, in fact, that would be great!

Sakura tree... hm. I\'ll think about it. OK, so I\'ll take one gate thing, my three minis, the sign \"Welcoem to Japan\" and maybe the aforementioned tree and/or a japanese flag. A Koi pond would be a bit... ambitious (I\'d only lose interest, believe me), I don\'t know what you mean by \"bamboo water thing\", an outdoor shrine or a house might be too big after all...
