PHILOLOGUS SMASH! PHILOLOGUS LIKES SMALL SLATES! lol

would it cost a lot to send slate to the US, all broken up and ready to use ?

Its getting windy here at moment and I expect a lot of slate to be coming from the roof anytime soon now lol

Hey dragonforge, I have a garden full of the stuff and can pop spme in a jiffy bag to you if needed (Although not too much as the postage would cripple me!) Wouldn\'t be this side of Christmas either.

Does anyone know where to get some resin skulls from?

Wow... you guys can\'t find slate? Weird. I\'m in PA and I have no problem. I actually have tons laying around from my old fish keeping days.

Pet stores would be my main recommendation. I\'ve never seen a several hundred pound piece of it, the largest being a paving stone. ??? Odd.

Well its a matter of geological location..Im in the Ohio river valley so I have lots of clay covered with about 12 inches of sand.. is crap for growing a yard.. great for making bricks.

Down in Kentucky they do have slate, Im just not driving down there for it :)

As for size, Ive seen it in chunks 2-3 feet in diameter and 2-3 inches thick used for paving stones.

What many of you don\'t seem to understand is the complete lack of desire most people have for anything that requires effort.

I got an urban basing kit mainly for the resin bits but also for the slate. I could not be arsed hunting around for other suitable options when someone was offering me what I want complete. And to be honest there is so much slate in there that it will probably for the rest of my painting life (I am simply not overly prolific in my paint jobs). So that turns out to be a couple of cents per model, hardly going to send me to the poor house I think.

I understand that, and that\'s one of the reasons why I mentioned that you don\'t have to go through GW if it\'s slate you want. Most flower stores here sell it and even the supermarket a few blocks from my house has a big bucket of slate pieces at their flower shelf. I bought a bag that will last me for at least 10 years for about $0.40 (American dollars). So that saves me both the effort AND the money (even though it\'s not much money we\'re talking about...).

But, if it\'s impossible to find slate anywhere else, it\'s a different matter of course. I just think that\'s strange as we don\'t have slate in the ground where I live, but the shops are still full of it!

Any links to these companies selling packs of skulls, I am genuinley interested in getting some, but as I already have an abindance of everything else in the hero basing kit I cannot justify a tenner for a tub of resin...

Wow....

:duh:
Firstly, I think the basing kit is a good idea, because most people don\'t want to be bothered running around acquiring all the seperate pieces. that being said....

Slate is just about everywhere. Most homes have a couple pieces for walkways, or even low garden walls. If you don\'t have any, just find some in a public place and break off a little. You can find it at a lot of parks (as paths), or even at your neighbors (late night shopping). If you can swing a hammer, you only need a piece about the size of your hand to make enough to last you the rest of your life.

As for skulls/bones, awhile back I picked up some army packs from reaper -

They come five to a pack for about $7, and you get tons of bits to use; just chop them up! Besides the ones above they also have a spearmen pack, and having all those extra weapon bits couldn\'t hurt either.

off topic here, but I just gotta laugh at that comment Vince. On several of my forays to \"the South\", I passed many signs pointing out this or that \'famous\' battlefield. We don\'t have any of those up here, either there wasn\'t too many battles fought in the North or we just didn\'t care and paved them over with shopping malls.

Anyhow, Being very bored one day and having several hours to kill I left my hotel and headed down the highway looking for one of these incredible \'historic\' sites. I soon found some signs pointing the way, and it turned out to be a HELL OF A LOT further then the sign would have indicated (like 20 miles!). Well, I got there... there was a tiny dirt parking area with just enough room for 4-5 cars, alongside a beat-up post&rail fence looking out over an EMPTY meadow.

Did I say empty? There were actually two cows in the field!

There was a weathered sign tacked to a pole indicated the significance of the site. For the five minutes I was there, another car with a SOUTHERN family pulled up and were all excited. The were taking pictures and were just as happy as pigs in s__t to be there. Go figure.

I kept thinking how much better the field would have looked as a shopping mall. lol

Hey, MT...
Did you happen to ask the Southern Family if they had family that had died in that field that you\'re so eager to pave over?
Damn son...show at least \'a little\' respect....:D

We\'re not all toothless, ignorant bastards---believe it or not.:moon::D

It\'s not the same as the slate, but in the event anyone finds it helpful, GF9 has a tub of rubble pieces - http://www.gf9.com/store/product_info.php?cPath=36&products_id=202
