:( Ten views and no comments....... This cannot be a good sign.

Critisms ARE welcome. That is the main reason I put this up.:)

Hmmm...

I think people may be struggling to reconcile your intention to \'start your own line\' and the request for casting advice in your other thread with the level of expertise represented in your WIP.

I am not a sculptor, and I suspect you may need advice from someone who is experienced in sculpting, but I can find nothing to comment on. It is clearly humanoid, but it looks like it is wearing boxing gloves and flippers.

IMO you have a long path to travel, but I hope you get there...:D

I am not sure what else people could say....???

ps. It is generally considered bad form to shoot the messenger:D

Hmmm....

Well, the \'body\' looks ok - I can see muscle structure (I think), but as you have said yourself - you have a long way to go :) It may have been a tad too early in the sculpting process to have posted a WIP picture....

Can\'t wait to see the finished item :]

Let see if you are going for a \"heroic\" type male. In addition to what Finn already pointed out...
Thighs and Waist too thin
Neck too long, your neck is approximatly 1/2 of the height of your head.
A more dynamic pose would be nice too.

What I like...
Nice definition of the muscles (again assuming you are going for an exaggerated figure along comic/heroic lines)
You hit most of the major points for the rest of the figures proportions. A back shot and side shot would be nice to see for a more accurate critque.

Looks good....

Its always good to see someone getting into sculpting, and it looks like a promising start. The musculature does look good, and if you are planning on building up clothing or armour on sections like the legs and waist then it will be very cool. I like the style, and it does look quite \'superhero\' with certain areas emphasised.... but that is a good thing.
It will be interesting to see how this develops, as I am working on my own line of figures and find looking at other peoples work very enjoyable ..... :bouncy:
Keep up the good work..... Pete

BANG!!

BANG! BANG! BANG!

-chick chick - BOOM!!!

jk finn17. I appreciate your honesty. How else am I to progress.

It is clearly humanoid, but it looks like it is wearing boxing gloves and flippers.

lol That was funny. But oh so true. I really just did this one as an experiment to get the feel of the work. The hands and \" feet \" were just kind of stuck on without any real intention to keep them there. Pointless effort I know but I wanted to see if I needed to shape them seperately or try to build them on.

ANyway...............

Yes I am going for a more exaggerated superhero type of look, but I readily admit that this one got a little out of hand. the chest actually looked MUCH more proportionate to the the legs BEFORE I sculpted the arms. At some point in the shaping of the shoulders all that extra GS wound up overlapping the pecs and I had to frantically smooth them in to correct the damage.

I also did this all in one sitting with the arms being the last part of the puzzle. I think that was my BIGGEST mistake...... biting off more than I could chew............. story of my life.

A more dynamic pose would be nice too

Well this was not really intended as a show piece so the pose was really more of an after thought. But I will keep that ..... and all the rest of the advice in mind in my next works.

The back looks like hammered shiat and as far as a side view...... I am using my scanner to take pics so........

Many Thanks for all the encouragement and helpful critisms.

PLEASE do not hesitate to let me know if you see something that I need to pay special attention to or if you just have an idle suggestion.

Ahhhhh THAT is sig material......

Don\'t get me wrong I really appreciate this brutally honest, yet good natured jibe. Thanks again for everyone\'s time and comments.:D

Brushlicker and Freak!
If you put too much greenstuff on, use a pair of clippers to cut the excess off, then you can easily smooth out the line left from the cutting. Just learnt that one today.

umm i\'m no sculpter but the anatomy is a little off.
around the upper lat (doesn\'t join to shoulder)and the elbow/forearm (muscle doesn\'t match bone orientation).
also the neck you will find is hugely dissproportionate once you put a head on. (i assume of course that this is a \"normal\" super guy not some hulk type guy)
the femures (thigh) is joined too close to the spine. they need to be further apart \"set\" into the pelvis. he\'s not hip :D.
the calf muscles are way big compared to the quads but i think the quads should be bigger. (quads are the biggest muscle masses in the body)
i know it\'s wip but i think these areas should be addressed before you can finish the detail etc.

but overall i\'m pretty impressed! first green mini and all. keep at it! remember it is hard it\'ll take some time.

hey thanks for the encouragement Farseerlum  I have pretty much decided that this particular mini is beyond redemprtion so it is now canned. :(

HOWEVER!!! I plan to post the \" redemption \" ( at least I hope ;) ) mini sometime tommorrow. I have been working on it all day and it is shaping up rather well so far.

there is a \"noun here\" that says that when you try to copy something we are intimitly related to, like people, then any defects in said person are highlighted to us by dedicated parts of the brain.
it tells us that this person is weird, damaged, ill etc.

my point is that if you start on things less \"us\" you will be happier with your results. an armoured figure, inanimate, an alien. anythhing that doesn\'t trigger the primitive predjudeced part of us.

canning is good! it gets you on to another project. :D

you have piqued me into giving it a go again.

can\'t wait to see it!

??? Wow........ SUch an educated piece of advice. Very enlightening and yet something I had never thought of before, it does explain alot though.

Well my redemption mini will be a bit longer in the working than I thought. I VERY nearly butchered it last night. I got carried away with armoring it and wound up having to franticly scrape off what I could and now I have to re- sculpt a major portion of th mid section. :(

Anyway I think I will wait until it is totally finished before posting anything up this time. Give me a botu two more days and it will be up.:D
