Wet blending in small areas

I\'ve been doing pretty well so far with my blending when I have a lot of room to operate, like on capes and things...but when it gets down to small areas, like the scales on a cold one or faces and hands, it all goes pear-shaped pretty quickly.

The articles have been helpful, but again, only on large areas.

Anyone have advice for blending in small areas?

(Also, there was a post somewhere that I can\'t find now about something you can add to your paint to make it dry slower, aiding in the blending process...anyone know what it is?)

retarder..

your probably talking about drying retarders... vallejo sells some.. although i dont use it for small areas.. i just layer it and then go over it with a light glaze to blend in the seams.

retarded paint...

edomingox is right. Try using retarder from Vallejo.

However, i am painting saurus now (somewhat like the Cold Ones) and serious, if you\'re collecting an army like me, you wouldn\'t want to wet blend every single scale!

This is how I do it.

I employ a pull away technique (from chinese calligraphy) on a small brush dipped in watered down paint.

Firstly, I rim the scales with a light colour (Eg. my scales are GW Enchanted blue washed with blue ink) such as GW Ice Blue.
Then I employed the abovementioned technique (that\'s how you create the tapered hooks/sticks in chinese characters) and press lightly the brush against the edge and pull away along it.

Works well in small areas.

Sounds confusing? SOrry. Me too lazy still to post any photographs on CMON (actually to take any photos on them - \"so much to do...so little time...\" Joker, Batman movie) lol
