Wet Paint!

Hi all, just a couple of quick dumb questions...

I have some paints (they happen to be GW but let\'s not go there...) that are very watery. Mainly this affects the Graveyard Earth, Desert Yellow and Kommando Khaki which just happen to be ones that I really want to use well. Now, I was wondering is this typical of these particular colours or have I just got a few rogue pots?

Also, what do you guys think the best remedy is? Just leave them open for a while to dry out or add something?

Hmm... GW

Yep, shake \'em.

They are waterbased, so have a tendency to separate - particularly on greens and yellow, as you mentioned. Shake \'em good.

Done a whole lot of shakin\' but they are still watery so when you try and use them the paint and water seperate and pool (or something that means what I\'m trying to say)

Have you tried stirring with a toothpick or something to check what consistency the paint has in the bottom of the pot? I have had paint pots that wouldn\'t mix properly until I manually stirred up the paint from the bottom... If this doesn\'t work I suggest returning the paint pots to the store.

add a piece of metal sprue or an old bit to the pot. Put the lid back on and shake for a solid minute after you can here the bit rattling around.

If they are still watery, take them back.

Thanks for the tip - I just wasn\'t sure if that was how these particular paints always are as they are similar colours. I\'ll try the \"advanced\" shaking tonight... then I\'ll do the paints ;)

generally any of the muddy browns are heavy pigments and tend to settle out. (Ochre and Umbers)

If they don\'t thicken up like they should, you probably got the first or last of a batch and the pigments are not in the proper ratios to the carrier and may not be in the proper ratios to each other.

If that is the case, odds are the whole lot that you retailer (FLGS) has came in the same point of the run and are all bad. Get him to check a couple or try a different retailer.
