Wet Palette night!

I have just recently discovered the joys of the wet palette...
At first I tought it would be complicated or expensive.. I didn\'t quite get the principle.
But I saw one in the workspace thread and clicked! Five minutes later, I had a wet palette, and you know what? My scorched earth is not dry right now. This changes everything!!!
I can use paints I put there yesterday. Right now, I am posting on CMON and my paints are not going to waste, no more worries about running out of paint...
I got a side palette with white and black, and just water it down once in a while and it lasts for ever! Do you have any Idea how cool that is ? ( Yeah, you probably do.)
Here I was, always getting pissed at the useless crust at the bottom of my palette, and wasting time mixing and mixing, thinking: \" Wooo. Wet palette is not for me, it\'s for creepy painters that are much better than me and do wet blending , and stuff.\"
I can mix twelve degrades for my skintones by simply swirling my brush around; a-ma-zing!
And if I need to touch up something I did 5 hours ago, I CAN ! I just wet my brush and pick some paint right there. Pfffffffffff !

Here I am, wasting valuable painting time to tell you something you already know, and I don\'t give a shit! It\'s worth expressing, It\'s worth crying out loud, FROM NOW ON, I USE A WET PALETTE! lollollol

Its easy.. first step is go to the grocery store and in the section that carrys plastic wrap and foil wrap..look for something called baking paper or baking parchment..no this isn\'t wax paper but a thin paper used to bake cookies to keep the cookies from sticking to the cookie sheet.

Ok once you have bought some of the paper, take a plate..any old plate just not a good one and put some paper towel on it and soak it good with water. Tear/cut off a piece of the baking paper and put it on top allowing it to soak up the water. Now put your paint on the wet paper..and wa-la..a wet pallet. Paint will stay wet for hours.

If you put the whole works inside a tupperware like container, you can close it at night and keep paint wet for days.

See..Easy Peasy!!

Yup, that\'s exactly how I did did, DF, I used the first plastic container which size seemed fit, and already had the parchment paper, so zero expense
And it comes in a big roll so don\'t need to bother with cleaning the palette anymore, it\'s disposable.

I tried using a wet palette a while back, but kept running into problems. I used a shallow re-sealable plastic tub (like Tupperware) and put a wet sponge in the bottom. On top of that, I put some wet palette paper - stuff designed for wet palettes.

However, the problem I kept having was that all of the liquid was soaking through the palette paper and leaving only a paint splotch that was totally useless within an hour of putting paint on the palette.

I certainly like the idea of a wet palette; I just can\'t get them to work for me.

I had palette paper too, and did not like it; try with baking parchment.
The sponge didn\'t work for me either, so I used paper towel.
It may also be the level or water, or the fact that\'s it\'s not leveled.
And if sides of the paper are dipped under the waterlevel , capilary effect will make it absorb more water than you need.

I love my homemade wet palette, I live in a dry semi-desert area and this is the only way I can keep my paints from drying out in minutes.

Two questions.

How long till mold sets in and is there a trick to that too? A touch of rubbing alchol?

Is drying retarder still used and does it cause any problems if it\'s in a wet state for a long time?

i found it takes quite a while for mould to set in. it seemed to take longer to grow when i used ionised water as well. not sure about the retarder but i would be interested to hear other people\'s thoughts on the matter
