Hi
I recently decided to take part in a fanwork competion on http://www.fanwork-award.de/ , but I don´t know if my own works are reasonaby well-done to be worth entering, and just couldn´t find any sites with fanart to compare with.
I´d put a picture into the forum, but I don´t know how to upload those. The function I see here asks for an adress, but i don´t have a page on the internet; can´t one load pictures from the hard disc like you do when posting normal pics of minis?

I´d also appreciate if you could tell me some sites with fanart for WH40K.
You´ve alwyas been a great help, so please! help me this time if you can!

Well, the best tip for fanart is: look at GW\'s art! GW produces some of the most unbelievable stuff, I\'d definitely recommend buying Adrian Smith\'s book.

You can\'t load pics directly from your computer, it has to be hosted somewhere. http://www.photobucket.com/ is what I use.

I just hope it works

Thank you for your tips, the art on Hebus is truly breathtaking, I´m a great fan of 40k artwork. I´m afraid my own ones are weak in comparison, but I´ll post one just in case; I made it at school during a couple off lessons, just consider it an example of the direction my artwprk is going:

Just hope it works

Wow !

That\'s a pretty nice drawing you\'ve posted here ! Good proportions, a nice posture, once it\'s inked and once a background is added, it\'s going to be great !

Tip: There\'s a way to quickly ink handdraws like that with photoshop if you want...

note: You musn\'t pay great attention at school !

The photoshop tutorial

Attention, expert manipulation.

Open this drawing in photoshop.

First, you have to change it to RGB so that you can use all effects and layer manipulation
Image/Mode/RGB

Then, adjust contrasts to +50 (I\'ve tried on your picture, and +50 is a good setting)
Image/Adjustments/Brightness...

Now you need to select the grey tones with the colour selection tool.
Select/Color range
With the eyedropper tool, select a medium grey pixel of your drawing, then adjust the fuziness to the max (in a BW drawing it\'s ok). You can do less, just try to do what you think is best.

Once the selection is made, make a simple copy/paste with ctrlC ctrlV, it will copy these greys to a new layer

Now comes the technical part:

Make a ctrl+clic on your new layer, in the layer view. This will make a selection of all that\'s in this layer (note: there is only greys in that layer, the rest is void)

Now, go to the section \"path\" in the layer view. clic on the little arrow on the right and select \"Make work path, make it 1,0 pixel wide, it should be enough.

Go back to \"layers\", you see a new path made. Create a new layer, then select the \"direct selection tool\" (A) and make a right clic on your path, and choose \"Fill path\" and fill it with whatever colour you likes (black should be a good thing)

And voilà !

Notes:
1: You should work on a much bigger picture as the pixelisation of the pic make it more difficult for the path creator tool to work.
2: the values I gave here are just advices, you have to find out by yourself what the correct values are.

Have fun !

( :|~ this was long to type)

If you want I can e-mail you the result

Cool! Nice old style space marine! I say old style, because what you\'ve drawn is how the spacemarines used to be drawn until recently. Over time, the look of space marines has progressed from looking like normal humans in plastic armor, to the massive dudes wearing concrete they are. Here\'s a pic of what they look more like now:
http://www.warpartefacts.com/acatalog/galatan.jpg
(I didn\'t add it as a pic because it\'s large)
this progression has been headed up by Paul Dainton who\'s only been around in the last few years. Here\'s what GW said \"Paul is perhaps best known for some of the amazing Space Marine art he has produced over the last few years.\". If you look at any new space marine picture, they now have this massive look to them.

Alright, here\'s a rough I just did. I tried to add some more bulk to him. (sorry about hijacking the thread, I\'m just trying to help!)

good stuff...

DennisMech...The first attempt is technically pretty good, but something doesnt seem quite right with the proportion....The arms are too long, I think.

The second guy is much more dramatic and has better overall proportion.

Micha, yours is very good. I like the attention to detail and the precision of the drawing.
Good stuff there!!

Wow

Thanks very much for your help
@U5-Boubou: thank you for the tips, I see you spent quite some time, I don´t have photoshop however, I use ArcSoft Photostudio I got with my scanner; still I´d be glad if you could Email m,e the result, I´m really curious
Denismech: nice pictures, especially the second one looks very powerful indeed; try drawing MK7 leg armor, the one with kneecaps, the one you paint looks a bit strange
I don´t want to turn the forum ino a self-presentation arena, but I´d like to post one more picture if you care to comment, did it at scholl toda, 2xLatin + English and here it is:
Marine3a.jpg

Hope you like it, was inspired by a very popular spacemarine mini, some might know it.

Lookin good, you really do have great attention to detail! I think his chest armor is a bit big, maybe it needs to stop higher? Oh, and his face is a bit funny, I think it\'s the eyes. I know, I should draw mk7 legs, but I like the other kind a lot. I\'ll draw some mk8 armor with the high neck rim soon.

woah, my post count....evil!
