WH FB miniature bases?

hi!

as I\'m working on my josef bugman displaybase I got a small thinker... are you aloud to place whfb miniatures on round slotta bases? I want to be able to enter it to a comp you see

Well, I\'ll quote what it says in White Dwarf for warhammer single miniature:

\"All models must be presented on an appropriately sized gaming base. Generally these will be 20mm or 25mm square bases for foot figures and 25x50mm cavalery bases for mounted models, although appropriately sized circular bases may be used if preferred.\"

That\'s all it says really, apart from what is eligible for the category, normal sized figures on foot or on normal mounts (no characters on dragons, for example), so I\'m guessing yes round bases for infantry and cavalry alike are fine.

*Edit* Looking at the booklet for last year, both Albert Moreto Font\'s slayer sword-winning and Joe Hill\'s bronze winning entries are on round bases.

ok, and you can put a mini the comes with a 25mm base on a 50mm base aswell eh?

I think I\'ve used up the extent of my knowledge here. I\'ve never entered a painting competition, well, not a mini painting comp anyway, having only got back into the hobby a few months agao.
That Joe Hill entry looks like it\'s on a 40mm round base for a figure that probably would be on a 20mm square for the game.

I doubt it, since the quote above says \"appropriately sized\" base.
But I\'ve never been to anything associated with GW corp. so what do I know.

Unless you\'re entering the open category you have to use the \"appropriately sized\" gaming base (but have the choice of round or square to suit your personal taste). So no putting small figures on big bases :no:

The term appropriate size is always a grey area... I would say don\'t go more than one base size up....so not 50mm...
round bases are fine depending on the comp...check the rules with them some state on gaming base only some allow flexibility..
if it\'s for gaming then it has to be square base to be tournament legal.
whatever the case most comps also state that although alloed the display element of a base is not the key factor for judging..so whatever size base don\'t overpower the model and akesure that the scenic elements are in character wth the model itself.

well, I was thinking of Bill\'s silver winning entry last year was a kislevite placed on a 40mm square base.

but I\'ll contact GW and find out ^^

Round or square, 20mm or 40mm, it doesn\'t matter. I\'d steer clear of a 50mm though. As long as the mini came on a 20mm or 25mm base (excluding Terminators) you\'re fine. It specifically mentions in the rules of GD that it\'s okay to have a round base instead of a aquare one, or vice versa, for aesthetic purposes

yeah, I found out that the base that I\'m using is 40mm... I glued together 4 20mm bases

I was always under the impression that GD entries should be of the size that comes in the pack, but can be either round or square.

For Oz GD its correct gaming base shape and size, so no round bases for warhammer and no square ones for 40k.

The intention here is to allow a little flexibility whilst keeping to the spirit of the competition. So, if you want to mount your Terminator on a 40mm base because it \"looks nicer\", you can still enter it in the Warhammer 40,000 single model category. Similarly if you prefer to base your fantasy model on a round base instead of a square one you will not be penalised.
