the questions have arisen:
how much spare time does it take to start noticing these things? then come to the computer and point things out? then monitor the status of those things that were pointed out?

waste of time

I can\'t believe the amount of threads on stuff that is totally unrealistic. These are just movies and games people!!

Argue about something real like

Gimli vs. Gotrek
or
Sauron vs. The lord of change:):)

Besides, Darth Maul can take on ANY 40k loser.

Darth Who?

Man back when I was a kid, the bad guy just wore a bad black helmet and breathed like he had one Marlboro too many! Now they got guys with bad face paint and phony horns stuck all over his face. Lets not forget too, that Darth Maul LOST! BTW, Kirk would still give him a run. I mean, he met GOD and told him off, then got Spock to blow him away! :]

SuperVike has a good point, lets not compare apples and oranges like Star Wars and 40k, because that\'s unrealistic, and a waste of time, right?

Let\'s rather focus on something realistic Like Sauron versus a lord of Change (nevermind Tzeentch the deity itself, which would be a bit more fitting.)

Or how about one type of Dwarf Pitted against another? Or Darth Maul versus anyone ever, because we all know how much ass he never kicked. Howabout something REALLY REALISTIC like Superman versus Batman, or God versus Lucifer, or if my dad can beat up his dad?

You know, realistic stuff that MIGHT actually happen?

And overall, I\'d have to say the only bigger waste of time than talking about the subject matter herein is STOPPING TO POINT OUT how much of a waste of time it is. *sigh* Why aren’t children banned from the internet?

Hmmm. You\'ve got a point. If there is indeed someone out there that kicks more ass than the Emperor in his heyday, it\'s Yoda. Oh man, Yoda rules. But then they wouldn\'t fight, cause they\'re kinda cut from the same cloth.

But what about the God Emporer

I see a regiment of Fish Speakers and the God Emperer Leto II in worm form smashing both the puny emperers of the lessor universes -----BWA-HA-HA-HAAAAA - as well as taking the Ring from that whiney hobbitt, my Precious.lol

hmmm if i wanted a powered armor warrior i would go with the master chief from Halo on the xbox.
The guy can lift 8 metric tons i doubt any jack ass space marine can do that.

Oh BTW as cool as the guys are from LOTR non of them hold a candle to Conan!
WHAHAHAHAHAHAH!

Wars of escalation...

I\'m thinking that the content of this forum was bound to Star Wars vs. Warhammer 40k and parallels to Dune. It seems to have trailed off a bit.

Anyone could simply say that there\'s a bigger, badder war guy than yours somewhere. I say Space Marine, you say the Master Chief from Halo, I could say Heavy Gear. I say Heavy Gear, you could say Battle Mechs, then you could say that they are inferior to their Robotech mecha counterparts. Then you could say The alien mothership from Id4, then I could say Death Star. Then I could say that Dodekain was a giant war robot to whom the Earth was about the size of a basketball. There are many degrees of separation. It goes on… It gets silly.

Get my idea here? Warhammer 40k. Star Wars. Dune. That’s it. That’s what Chrispy wanted to talk about. It’s one thing to make a valid point, but the war of escalation is tired.

Ok, you want on topic - Cant see the space marines being in much danger of being hit by the graduates of the imperial school of marksmanship. On the other hand, in my humble opinion, cant see the space marines catching storm troopers in a foot race - all that crap hanging off of them would get in the way.lol

True enough, but...

Well, depends on how you see it. Using implied empirical evidence, the following could be said:

On the tabletop, the size of a slotta-base is 1 inch. It’s widely known that the base is roughly 5 feet wide to scale, making a Space Marine their average 7 feet, So in combat speed, a Space Marine moves 6 inches, and charges 6 inches. So, they can either walk 30 feet, or run 60 feet. Unless your vehicle is a skimmer, it will only move a maximum of 12 inches, or 60 feet in that same turn. However, the rules don’t give an average time in seconds that a turn would take in reality. I wouldn’t think it would be more than 10 seconds or so. So that is pretty slow.

But if you watch the test animations that Exile films has on their website for the Bloodquest movie, Space Marines move much faster and more nimbly than any Storm Trooper I’ve ever seen. But then they are between 7 and 8 feet high depending on which model you’re using as a scale, that would give them a huge stride.

Of course then, they also have giant banner poles that prevent them from even walking down a corridor of an average Star Wars Imperial hallway, too!

And then there’s the reference to the shooting, which the Space Marines excel at, and the Space Marine armor, that not only protects them, but doesn’t explode and burn when hit with an energy weapon.

It can go on for much longer, but you probably haven’t even read this far without getting bored to tears.

Set Phasers to \"Kill\"

Okay, I know there is no contest here, and that Fed security guys look like jackasses with those chin strap helmet things, but having the ability to \"vaporize\" your enemy with a weapon that has an almost limitless power supply still holds some thought for me!
And to stay on topic here, *real* Star Wars heroes like Han Solo, could probably either shoot their way or BS their way out of any situation with a horde of Space Marines...
And then manoueverability... Those darn Cylons were so cool in the sky-earth NMM reflective armor, and that awesome glowy eye that droned back and forth, back and forth... \"your wish is my command\" still echoes in my mind over and over, in that monotone mindless killer robot voice, but then the reality of seeing them stumble around at the pace of a crippled old fart hits me square in the memory banks! It is no wonder Starbuck and Apollo always got away!

Real heroes?

The Space Marines aren\'t the heroes of WH40k. Dudes like leonatos, and Commissar Gaunt and Inquisitor Hand and Ephrael Stern And Marneus Calgar and Sly Marbo are. I\'d like to see any hero from Star Wars duke it out with Commissar Yarrick. Anyone who can lose an arm to an Ork, then kill the Ork, and rip off the Ork\'s arm and stick it where his used to be, is a BAD ASS.

This is not really a waste of time!!

Whoa!

Waitaminute..

Chronique, you seemingly directed a comment (in one of your earlier posts) towards my earlier post

The purpose of my post wasn\'t seriously aimed at saying this thread was a \"waste of time\" I was just being ironic by \'acting\' like my \'real\' comparisions were more credible. Sure, maybe off topic, but I was just going for a bit of levity.

I apologize for my apparent lack of detectable humor.

I also take back my \"Darth Maul\" reference. I am just so smitten with his two handed light saber. Darth Vader is much tougher, even though he breathes like he smokes 4 packs of Lucky\'s every day.

sigh**maybe I should be banned from the internet :(

A few things I\'m ticked off about in the universes: In several Lucasarts games I saw reviewed, there was reference to a \"dark Trooper\", basically a soopa soldier \"imbued with the dark side of the force\" and they had jump packs. But they\'re never in almost anything else, not that I\'ve read all the Star Wars comics, cartoons and novel... Cause I haven\'t remotly. But they\'d be the only thing that would put up a fight.

But then, most games don\'t like to follow the book, show or movie. For Example, I\'m replaying Emperor: Battle for Dune and while there\'s alot of similarities, there\'s alot of things that get to me... First is Michael Dorn playing Duke Achillies of the Atredis. Worf is the sole heir of the Atredis? Where\'s paul? And Sheilds!! They were everywhere in the book and movie (not the new, crappy one.. the old one with Sting!) but I can\'t get them to defend my base with, it\'s stupid!!

Also, Star Treck should find a way to distill the \"red shirt syndrome\"... That way all the Blood Angels, Khorne Berserkers and Speed Kults would get zapped, choke to death, be eaten by a gorilla with one horn or turned into a cube or something.

Supervike...

My mistake entirely. I tend to jump to the inflammatory too quickly, as I’m not used to intelligent posts. Chalk that blunder up to years of callused cynicism stemming from a pre-programmed defensive reaction. What\'s worse, I think I’m getting cabin fever from being snowed in. Haven’t been able to leave in three days. -Note to self- Need to tunnel out and find society again. Madness taking hold.

Eh, for what it\'s worth, it was pretty funny.

Red Shirts????

Hay, you made me laugh with the line about them getting turned into styrofoam cubes!!!! Har har! Remember the 25th Anniversary game for the PC? You could shoot out the boulders to reveal the hidden door, but if you did it wrong, they all come down and the red shirt pushes Kirk out of th eway and takes the boulder! Bones walks over, does his magical humm and says \"He\'s dead Jim\"...

Yeah, most common troopers would perish then, paving the way for epic scale (no pun intended) combat between uber powerful character creatures!!! Way more fun then seeing wave after wave of stormtroopers frying entire forests of stupid Ewoks :D

hmmm...

I think it\'d be cool if someone were to model up some cadians as rebel troopers, and I\'ve already seen someone make a commander out of Darth Vader in 40k. it\'d be really cool if they fought it out.

Smokey

Comparing these two apples and oranges seems stupid to me.
