I do the vast majority of my painting while I\'m at work, but I can\'t listen to music at work so unfortunately all I have to listen to while I paint is the droning hum of the server fans :(

Lately I\'ve been listening to the Lord of the rings soundtracks while painting.
I prefer soundtracks to other music because they kind of \'blend into the background\' and so make it easier to still concentrate on what you\'re doing

I usually just turn on the TV (Food Network always tells you what they\'re doing so you don\'t have to look up :p) or watch a movie (Brotherhood of the Wolf is a great movie while painting Wolfen) but when I do listen to CDs, I choose from my collection of the following:

Enigma
Lisa Loeb
Smashing Pumpkins
Fleetwood Mac and Enya (stolen from me father\'s stash)
And MP3 CDs made from anything and everything I can download! :p

Mainly black metal: Emperor, Marduk, Immortal, Cradle Of Filth, Dimmu Borgir,...
Some death metal: Morbid Angel, Nile
some other music, as long as it contains guitars and drums it\'s okay for me :D: Papa Roach, Linkin Park, Slipknot,...

And I\'m sure about this: listening to this music while I paint certainly adds to my concentration level :)

i agree with KingM
i like to listen to appropriate tunes to what im painting
try this one for dwarves.......the anvil chorus....from..... in the hall of the mountain kings.........i forget who wrote it but youl recognise it from an old levi jeans advert......the one where there bashing rivets on the boat

various stuff from the 70s to now, inc bauhaus, sisters of mercy, inkubus sukubus, green day, jack off jill, levellers, pink floyd, led zeppelin and many more, quite an odd combination i know, i think zeppelins battle of evermore is a particulary fitting track while painting fantasy

I mostly like dark and melodic stuff.
Nightwish, Thatre of Tragedy, Edenbridge, Lacuna Coil, Therion, Tristania, Weltenbrand, Lacrimosa, ...

My all time favorite bands are also great music for painting: Deine Lakaien (dark/wave, awesome voice) and Die verbrannten Kinder Evas (very dark, very melodic)

Other music includes Marylin Manson, Falkenbach or Blind Guardian.

Or my girlfriend calling in the background... lol

Interesting question

When I\'m in the mood for music it\'s usually something like Rush, Queensryche, Metallica, etc.

Recently acquired a clock that generates different sounds (its meant to be used as white noise to put you to sleep) and it will do waves crashing on a beach, a waterfall and crickets (which is as annoying as hell.)

Cheers,
Grumb:cool:

Lately, I\'ve been listening quite a bit of Lisa Gerrard (Dead Can Dance), Liv Kristinne (Theatre of Tragedy) and Mary Fahl (October Project). On particularily cheery days I listen to Love is Colder than Death and a bit of STOA.

Another favorite is to pop a DVD into the \'puter and run the movie with the director\'s commentary or whatever extra audio track it may have.

for painting its always tv and i occasionally look up to see whats going on since most of its repeats, for art i prefer video game music - age of wonders 2, akira, Bushido Blade 2 Original Soundt, metal gear 1 2, warcraft 3, bout 300 titles with only the tracks i like left (1-5 tracks per title). or i go slighty more traditional and hit semi classic music with last of the mohicans (best) myth the game 1 2 3, braveheart, conan, brahm stokers dracula etc. i cant handle normal classical music, just a bit too dreary or uninspired. and if i hear jazz i dive for my storm bolter :flame: come up blazin!

I just bought the Official Dungeons and Dragons soundtrack (not the movie, but one done for the 3.5 release). It\'s quite good and I think it will be nice to have in the background when I start painting my next piece...whenever I manage to get motivated enough to paint again. :)

What do I listen to while painting...

I turn on the T.V. settle back on the couch with my paints, pallette and brushes within arms reach. Then I listen to my roommate nag. Lately about the glass etching I\'m supposed to do for her oldest daughter, the castle cabinet I supposed to do for her youngest granddaughter\'s room, mini\'s I\'m supposed to have done for eBay, or anything else that crosses her mind while she conveniently forgets I\'m not paying exclusive attention to her while she\'s on the computer. :D
Ironicly I have a harder time painting while she\'s at work. lol

Shudder! You have a clock that makes the noise of crickets?!??? I hate the noise of crickets (especially when theres a noisy one in my Gecko\'s tank and he can\'t be bothered to eat it).

I generally have the TV on as background noise. UK styke or something mindless like that.

I usualy listen to radio since this the only time I can do so. Whil I\'m working the radio just disturbes me, same has when I\'m reading. So I save the radio for those time when I\'m painting.
