what are your favorite ratios?

I was just curious what ratios people like to use for basic base coating and applying highlights as I am thinking of tweaking my ratio slightly. I myself use a 1:1 paint and water for base coating and like a 4:1 or 5:1 for highlights. Give me your input.

I don\'t really have a set ratio, and I tend to paint with super thin paint. For basecoating I use probably a 4:1 water to paint ratio, for shadows and highlights probably more like 6:1 or thinner.

different consistancies give the paint different properties allowing certain techniques to be used.

have a play and see what you like.

i personaly just add water till it looks right, i don\'t count the drops any more.

I tend to go even further into the lazy zone, and just dip the brush on my tongue, then use the lid of the pot to mix it, if Im using a straight colour.

Im mostly painting black armour and white robes at the moment, so not a lot of colour mixing going on.

Its kind of down to your painting style, and the final effect your aiming for.

Depends on the paint line and color.

Generally 3:1 (paint:water/gunk) if I am using Reaper MSP except for the metallics (4:1) for base coats.

Highlights and shading, it depends on what I am trying to do and the color. I can go anywhere from 1:1 to 1:5.

It depends on the paint. When blocking in color, I try to use P3 or Foundation paint (or some of the more opaque VMC) and they weigh in at about 2:1 wateraint. Otherwise it can vary from 3:1 to \"I can\'t count that high\":1

I generally use paints very different from standard hobby colours, which are relatively fluid obviously, so I don\'t even think about this.

So basically as generulpoleaxe said: add water until it paints right.
