I am lucky enough to have a Hobby Lobby here in town. I found a nice set of brushes there really really inexpensive got them at 40% off. They are Royal Majestic series 4250 round. I have sizes 3/0 5/0 10/0 20/0 and they work really well.

Winsor & Newton Series 7 Miniature Kolinsky Sable Brushes - I pretty much had my mind set on these until I started reading that their quality had gone way down so I decided to search for a alternative.

These are the brushes that I prefer and usually pick them up from Dick Blick (http://www.dickblick.com/) since there isn't a store near me that sells brushes small enough for mini painting. Personally, I haven't really had any problems with the ones that I have. I clean them regularly with brush soap or brush cleaner and they're still going strong after two years of use.

Raphael Sable Series 8404 - This was the alternative I found.

I also heard really good things about these brushes, but haven't the chance to pick any up.

Please can you tell me which one will be better value for money, better quality and better durability.

Again, just personal opinion and experience here, but I think the W&N are exceptional brushes for the money.

If there are any other brands you would seriously recommend over these then please tell me.

Rosemary & Co. (http://www.rosemaryandco.com/) have some incredible brushes as well and I have picked up a couple them.

There was also one other question I have. After choosing which brand I will buy what sizes do I go for. I will be painting miniatures from many different GW armies but will not really be going for huge stuff like tanks but more the smaller singular figures, so I won't have to go past size 4 possibly ?

So do you recommend sizes 000 all the way through to about size 3 ?

I use W&N size 0 and 1 mainly; use the R&C size 0 for small detail work. I don't think you need really small brushes as long as the brush holds a super-fine point; the brushes I mentioned using do.

Bear in mind, this all just my opinion.

I really enjoy my Raphael 8404 brushes. There my go to guys for sure. I can't see any need for a brush bigger than 3 if you're not painting tanks and such.
