What constitutes a duel?

As per the title really, what constitutes a duel???

I have an idea for an entry into this years GD if I get the time to do it along with my other entries but because of the base size I would need for it (40 x 40 would probably be about right) and having the figure to be removed from the base would not look right I was thinking maybe it would be better off in the duel category.

Rules state that the duel is to be on a max base size of 50 x 50 (not a problem) and consist of two figures in a dynamic pairing of two well-matched opponents in some kind of combat or other dramatic situation.

Does this mean that one of the figures can be dead???

I think they both have to be alive. Victoria was marked down to a bronze for her Fiery Angel simply because the opponents weren\'t \"evenly matched\" enough, so having one of them already dead would probably not be a good idea.

u can hav one of them dead i think but the best duels ive seen the oppenent is either alive or just about to be killed not dead

It also depends on the \"Story\" too IMO...

I think it would make a MUCH more entertaining story to have a gretchin getting lucky and killing a marine, rather than an evenly matched Tau vs IG.

(Although I really like that one where the guardsman is pistol whipping the Tau)

Just look at that one recently with the ork on top of the pillar making faces at the rippers, about to be attacked by the hive tyrant.

Looks like the only place for it if I do it might be the open in which case one for next year maybe.

I\'m pretty sure there was one with a triumphant demon standing over a defeated and very dead ogre. Mind you, I\'d consider that as there was a dule but it\'s now over.

I never really understood this rule... the way the mini is modelled and painted.. they look pretty evenly matched to me GO Seraphim!

Don\'t think its that simple as not defined very well. Bill\'s right about Victoria Lamb and its worth checking out her site to read what she says.

I think its all down to personal interpretation by whoever\'s judging it from what I see - so no help to you really

Personal opinion if one dead then no duel - but if just at point where killing blow/shot goes in could be super dynamic and striking - hey someones gotta win a duel after all!
