Well, when I paint my Mid-Nor guys, I know I\'ll at least have to listen to Metallica\'s \"Master of Puppets\" at least once.... :p

But recently, I painted to The Fifth Element Soundtrack and it seemed to work out for me. It\'s got a lot of classical themes but keeps it interesting and new so I\'m not falling asleep. That movie was great, too.. excpet for Bruce Willis who seems to be taking any job nowadays...

TV, the root of all evil...

I usually end up with the TV on, and spend too much time switching channels or just watching it.

This is especially bad for 2 reasons:
1) I never have enough time to paint anyway, and-

2) I have this \"thing\" about not missing anything about a show/movie I\'m watching. If I actually start paying attention to it, then I have to know everything that\'s happening, even if I\'ve
seen it before.

I\'ve tried just plopping in a CD to the PC and listen, but I hate having to change it when it\'s done or listen to it over and over.

I find I work best when I just \"select ALL\" the mp3s in my PC and hit PLAY...

I\'ll listen to just about anything. I have some rap (like two cds) and a whole lot of rock. it\'s usually 70s rock like Zeppellin, Sweet, The Who (Tommy rocks) or heavier music like Offspring (up to Ixnay) Metallica, Our Lady Peace.:flip:

I recently got the Futurama first season on DVD and I\'m pretty sure I have worn grooves in it.

TV distracts me alot since it\'s mostly garbage on anyways. I usually listen to new age stuff and anime soundtracks.
Somehow it gets my creative juices flow\'n.

Stuff like:
Enya
Rounin Kenshin
Video Girl Ai
Macross Plus
Escaflowne
Ghost in the shell
Please save my Earth (or anything else composed by Yoko Kanno)
Anything from Joe Hishashi (sp?) from the Studio Ghibili (Spirited Away company)
And an occational Billy Joel song or Jpop.
Gotta love Jpop (japanese pop).

! no way in hell could I paint to death metal lol - too fast! I\'d probably just go into a seizure and slop paint all over the place :)

I listen to:

- both LOTR soundtracks (good fantasy mood music)
- Gladiator, 13th Warrior and Blackhawk Down soundtracks
- Baroque Classical music (Pachelbel etc)

Helps me focus, flow, concentrate, and tune out the rest of the world.

Oh, a ton of different stuff

everything from classical; LOTR-classical staion, to J-pop; Ayumi Hamazaki, Pizicatto Five, to jazz; Jelly Roll Morton, Thelonious Monk, Cowboy Bebop.... and yeh, occasionally I\'ll have the TV on in the background.
Actually, listening to music is about the only way I can keep track of time while I\'m painting 1 to 1-1/2 hours per CD. :D

Have you ever tried popping in a movie you\'ve seen so often you can recite the dialog? I did this one time while painting with a friend and he and I talked the movie to each other along with the set in the background.

p.s. I\'m surprised no one has yet named the Carmina Barona (sp?)

I normally listen to some classical music whilst painting but it has to be fairly fast/catchy such as ride of the Valkrie or some such also film scores are a firm favourite especially the LOTR or Gladiator.

For a slightly more ambient music (though not necessarily quiet music!), try Scanner (not the metal band! His \'Lauwarm Instrumentals\' is a good album) or for a bit of 70\'s industrial try Throbbing Gristle (\'The 2nd Annual Report of Throbbing Gristle\' or \'Mission of Dead Souls\' are good uns).

heh! I got Sweet on now . . . ! ;)

Oh . . now Youth Brigade . . .

Coming up is the soundtrack to Bend it Like Beckham (great movie by the way) then the soundtrack to Mighty Wind (another great movie).

Metal fans: I just borrowed Haunted\'s middle album \"??\" . . holy crap if they aren\'t the musical heirs of Slayer . . . !! I\'ve previewed all three of their albums and I will get them all at first opportunity . . .

Also I saw New Society of Anarchists with DRI on Tuesday . . damn what a good show and if you\'ve never heard New Society of Anarchists they kick some serious @$$!! I have one of theirs coming from Amazon as of this morning.

I was thinking of doing a Celtic Frost themed series of banners for my Empire Army but it looks a bit tricky . . . I think some kind of metal imagery might be cool so long as it\'s not too band specific. Maybe INSPIRED by metal art . . heh . . Maybe just a font like the one from Exodus, or hell, even Maiden\'s might look neat . . .

At any rate, I like all music that is peppy and fast paced so I like polka, Bluegrass, Western Swing, Renaissance dance music, techno/industrial, etc . . .
