What do YOU do when you paint?

I always listen to music while painting but then I always listen music whatever I\'m doing. :p It\'s either some rock radio station or my palylist. Nothing too heavy though.

I just usually hit random on my Zune... I have so much music it keeps things interesting :)

Alien - LOL I know I do the same thing!! I\'ll spend more time thinking about what I want to do than actually doing it... ha!!!

That\'s just evil mentioning Pandora around those of us who can\'t get it anymore due to rediculous licencing regulations.

Chat.

Play Dawn of War.

TV in the background or have something going on screen.

At work, it will prolly be CSI or something like that.

What?! Canadians can\'t use Pandora? Why?

Now I\'m mad!

That damn music industry is evil. I remember hearing something about how they wanted to raise the fees for playing the music so much that it would have bankrupted Pandora and many other online stations. Was it something along those lines or because of international reasons?

Concentrate.
But for background noise I have either the radio, large selection of CDs or audio books (MP3 player as well sometimes).
Can\'t do the TV thing, it\'s downstairs and I very very rarely have my laptop in the painting room.

Put the ipod on shuffle and just let it go.

Sometimes if it\'s the weekend, I might get the little portable telly down and watch athletics / rugby at same time.

Radio Five\'s often a station of choice. Did a bit of painting whilst listening to the Cricket in Barbados last week.

Well, they say cricket\'s often as interesting as watching paint dry, it was that night lol

I usually have silence when I paint. Sometimes, though, I\'ll put on some music, but it has to be something rather atmospheric and not too obtrusive, or I end up focusing more on the music than on the mini. Ambient or drone-based industrial music works best.

I do like to have a cup of coffee or a beer while painting, though. If it\'s late at night a glas of whiskey won\'t go amiss.

When I paint alone I usually listen to music, usually vinyls as it forces me to get up to turn or change the disc. Good way to remember to stretch occasionally.

One thing I\'ve recently learned is to just enjoy the silence. When I listened to music almost 24/7 it started to lose some edge. Then I tried to live without music a few days or a week and it really helped. Now I do it from time to time and I\'m enjoying music more than ever.

When I paint with my friends I usually talk, drink, eat and soon forget to paint. :)

When I paint alone, it\'s usually listening to Stargate episode commentaries. When I paint with my friends, it\'s usually chatting and sometimes a movie we\'ve all seen a billion (yes, a BILLION) times.

I\'m in the \"random iPod\" music camp. Can\'t do the tv thing - too distracting for me. I could paint for 5 hours straight and not notice the time if I\'ve got the tunes going.

I listen to music mostly. Usually hip-hop, those sometimes metal works, depending on the mood.

I would thoroughly recommend the album Deltron 3030 to everyone. It is a spacey Hitchhiker\'s Guide inspired hip hop concept album. Sounds bizarre, and yes it is, but it\'s also one of my top 5 albums ever.

When it comes to metal, for some reason Megadeth\'s Rust in Peace is one of my favorite painting albums ever.

I wish I could listen to my vinyl, like Hands of Blue, but I find it to be WAYYY too much of a distraction. I really should just move the turntable next to the painting table.

Yeah exactly. The director, cast, whatever talk about the movie they made. Some are great, some not. But it\'s kind of a neat thing to listen to, and the kind of thing you wouldn\'t probably listen to without doing something else.

I really liked the commentaries for the LtR movies, Tropic Thunder, all the kevin Smith movies. The ones that sucked the most were the Star Wars ones.

Commentaries are a great way for me to have fun experienceing a movie I have already seen but not distracting enough to keep me from painting.

i agree, it\'s a cool way of learning more about good films

I was actually a bit disappointed with the camp episode compared to the rest of the series. Having visited a few concentration camps I think they didn\'t portray them well enough for how horrible they were. I definitely understand that they had a budget to work with as well as most likely kept in mind they couldn\'t go too graphic but I still think they held back a bit too much.

It\'s my wife that tunes the radio to classic FM! I\'ll put a CD on, when it finished I forget to put another one on and then paint in silence (apart from brush sucking noises and swearing when it goes wrong).

So there it is, I paint to the sound of my own profanities!
