What do you do with the dead spots on mini\'s?

This is a problem I see often on mini\'s. Spots on the scupt that is nothing but space in between. It seems often to be spaces inbetween hilts and the body but sometimes it is weapons and the body.

The most recent mini that I have had this problem with is Reapers Mountain Troll. From the front veiw he has leather straps with metal going from his sholder plates to his belt. But if you look at him from the side the leather goes all the way to the body varying drasticly in size.

Do I paint this space black, leather tones, skin tones, something else?

HELP! Any suggestions on how you deal with these types of problems greatly appreciated.

If you paint them black, you will run the risk of them being very obvious in a photo since black is a quite striking colour (I know black is not ACTUALLY a colour, but you know what I mean...). I usually paint these dark brown (or dark grey) with a colour tone that blends well with the adjacent colours. Thus, it will look like it\'s in deep shadow and it will not likely \'pop out of the photo\'. Sometimes, though, if you have particularly bad sculpts these things can be a real headache, but most of the times the method I described works quite well.

:duh: Thanks Anders. That makes perfect sense. I had 1 sculpt (WOTC half-orc assassin) were the bak of the blade just melded into the body, I tried to file that down with a little sucsess.
