Hi Guys,

I was wondering down the street the other day and i was getting some funny looks of people, i was not until i saw my reflection that i realised that i had left a paint brush behind my ear!!!!

Has anyone has similar experiences?

Does anyone put thier brushes behind thier ears??

Cheers Iain.

Err... No... Can\'t say I have...

Although once I got very drunk with some friends and the girls of the group decided to draw on the guys with mascara...

I think I was Bobo the clown until we stopped laughing at each other... Thank God we didn\'t go outside!!

I do this too. I have painted the shoulders of my shirts at times from turning my head too quickly with a brush in my mouth.

I\'ll sometimes stick a brush behind my ear when I need to get up for something quick (refill/refresh my water cup etc.).
I\'ve never stopped painting and left it there because I\'m very careful to clean my brushes when finished.

Also, as I have glasses taking up valuable ear space, the brush wouldn\'t stay long on its own.

Yeah, I put them behind my ears and hold them in my teeth; depends on what I\'m doing at the time. I do remove them before getting up from my painting area, though.

Brush licking is done purely because you enjoy the taste of paint. I would recommend anything Green, Yummy.

Ritual already said what I was going to say.

As for putting them behind my ears, I can\'t say that I do, simply because I almost always have headphones on when I\'m painting, and the paintbrush really wouldn\'t be comfortable there.

While on the subject of brushes, can some of the more experienced painters provide tips about brush care?

Up til now, I just rinse the brush (Reaper series) thoroughly with water after a painting session, shape the tip to a point, and store horizontally. With this approach, the brush lasts only about two months before I get tired of curled or splayed tips.

Should I buy a specialized brush cleaner, and if so, how often should it be used? Are common household liquid detergents OK for brush-cleaning or are they too harsh?

My apologies if this has been covered in the articles section.

treide -- Are your brushes the red handled Reaper brushes or the black handled ones? The reds have synthetic bristles, and even with the most meticulous brush care won\'t get a very long life out of them. The black handled brushes are the Kolinsky\'s and should last much longer.

I pretty much clean my brushes in the same way you mentioned, and I can usually get a good year and a half out of them before I decide to retire them.

buy a special brush soap. It\'s cheap really. Use it every time you clean your brushes, and even sometimes while painting.

Another trick is to learn to paint with a curled brush. I have a brush I\'ve been using for nearly 20 years and I just love the perfect hook.

Getting the point in shape is the rational explanation (and also a useful thing). The REAL reason however, as philo logus mentioned, is the taste of paint! :D Be aware of flow improver, though. That stuff ruins the taste... lol

@ flynn - I am using the red-handled Reaper brushes, so that may have something to do with it.

@ vincegamer - thanks, will get some brush soap.
