What do You read?

I am currently reading \"The Lone Drow\" by R.A. Salvatore. His Drizzt Do\'Urden series just slays me.
In fact, anything this man has written is on my suggested reading list.
I\'m for thinking October is too damn long to wait for the next installment as well.

Another Author that I really like (and would HIGHLY recommend to our resident wolfen lover KittyKat)
Would be Laurell K. Hamilton
She writes a series of books (Anita Blake Series) based on an idea that Vampires are out of the closet and living freely among humans... and werecreatures. Her heroine is Anita Blake; an Animator and Vampire Slayer. Actually, she is a monster slayer. Though sometimes the monsters are human and even Anita is not sure she is not one of them.

Anita works for Animators, Inc. She routinely raises zombies for a living. Have a questionable will and died? Anita can raise you for your heirs to find out what you intended. Need to tell someone how you really feel about them but they died first? Anita can bring them back long enough for you to have your say. Anita also works as a consultant for the Regional Preternatural Investigation Team (RPIT), a division of the St. Louis Police force that deals with supernatural crimes.
Her life is more complcated as she is in love with both a vampire and an ALpha male werewolf pack leader.
Did I mention a den of Were-cheetahs have adopted her as their pack leader as well?
Really well written books with a true twist on the horror monsters of old.

Lone Drow was a goodie. Drizzt in a very bad mood.

I also saw that one of the books in his other series (Demonworld, I think) had a new Drizzt short story in it...may have to buy it just for that.

Yes, but isn\'t it so much better to have a mint condition first print...My GF bought me a first edition Silmarillion for christmas and the leather bound set of The Hobbit and LOTR last year.(funny how I\'ve owned over 6 copies of each of the books over the years)

Aahh...The Luggage...

Possibly the most unlikely, hilarious hero ever. You will be glad to know that The Luggage features heavily in other books. You may be concerned to know that Pratchett drops Rincewind after a few books, but don\'t worry....his writing just gets better and better as do his characters.
In fact I think only Ankh Morpork and the Patrician feature in almost all of his (Discworld) books.

He goes through a cycle - The Wizards (Rincewind), The Witches, Death, The Guards.

And, while I hate to disagree with the mighty Finn, but the only character in all the books I have read is Death.

True, they are all Characters, and characters. But the only one that appears in all the books I have read so far is THE GRIM REAPER - but I will be the first to admit I still have a couple of books to go.

Hmmm....here\'s the last ten books I read:

Dark Gods by T.E.D. Klein-- a quartet of novellas that includes what may well be the best and second best Lovecraftian stories ever written (\"Black Man with a Horn\" and \"Children of the Kingdom\")

The Land of Laughs by Jonathan Carroll--one of the most sinister books I\'ve read in the last few years. Of particular note to bibliomanes.

The Long Goodbye by Raymond Chandler--to quote the blurb on the back: \"Chandler wrote like a slumming angel.\" His voice is so all-pervasive in hardboiled fiction, it\'s sometimes hard to remember where it came from.

Vulture Stew, edited by Zacherly--I found this in a used bookstore. It\'s a terrific collection of old horror stories.

The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov--one of the world\'s greatest fantasy novels. Later adapted by The Rolling Stones as \"Sympathy for the Devil\"

The October Country by Ray Bradbury--a dark chest of stories from a land where \"it\'s always turning late in the year.\"

The Monster Show by David Skal--a lively and provocative history of the horror movie.

The Emperor of Ice Cream and other Poems by Wallace Stevens--does anyone else here ever read poetry? Stevens was great. The title poem is weird and dark in the best possible way. I got this in one of those Dover Thrift editions for a dollar.

Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy--NOT for the faint of heart, this is ostensibly a historical Western, but its the most vivid horror story I\'ve ever read. It may also be the greatest American novel since Moby Dick.

Pop. 1280 by Jim Thompson--another hardboiled crime novel. Wow, this is a sick one, god love it.

What all this says about me, I hesitate to think...

For recreational reading-Terry Pratchett\'s Discworld series by far. I\'ve read each book at least twice most three or four times. I\'m currently re-reading carpe jugulum. However my favorite series are the guards. My favorite character by far is Vimes (hmm go figure given my occupation.) After Vimes, it has to be a toss up between Death and Vetinari.


I\'ve also read the majority of the GW novels. William king is my favorite author from the GW stable.

For comic books-John Kovalic\'s \' Dork Tower.\' and the current Wildstorm pub \"Robotech\" series.

It has been interesting to see what others are reading out there. Cheers

George RR Martin \"Song of Fire and Ice\" (he needs to finish up the next book, can\'t wait!)
Stephen King - I love the Dark Tower books
Terry Goodkind \"Sword of Truth\" books
Dan Brown \"DaVinci Code\" \"Angels and Demons\"
Michael Crichton, pretty much anything
Dennis L McKiernan \"Dragonstone\" \"Eye of the Hunter\" etc

Non-fiction stuff I\'m reading right now are various books on learning Maya (3d graphic/animation software), Practical Python, some basic physics book my guy has (never took physics in high school ), various anatomy books. One book I\'ve come across while learning about animation is \"The Animator\'s Survival Kit\" by Richard Williams. I\'d actually highly recommend this book to anyone working on sculpting-it deals with basic movements and how to exaggerate them to show various expressions, movement of cloth and the like. Very good read and you\'ll be surprised at how much you could apply to sculpting.

Hm.. Just finished Angels Of Darkness, by Gav Thorpe... loved that book alot (can\'t you tell, by my new avatar? ), and wish it were longer...

I\'m also a big fan of Robert Jordan, and the Wheel Of Time series specifically... which basically means I like J.R.R. Tolkien... I\'ve just about finished The Silmarillion, which is a pretty cool \"prequel\" to The Lord Of The Rings, and The Hobbit for that matter.

I\'m looking for another good WH40k novel, like Angels Of Darkness... was thinking of Deathwing, since I\'m a big Dark Angels fan, but I\'m open to others... any suggestions?

I wish I had them all still in front of me instead of behind me. I know I can read them again, but it\'s not quite the same.

As I recall, that is it for Twoflower. Twoflower has left the building. But as I said, there are plenty more outrageous characters waiting in the wings

I\'m looking for another good WH40k novel, like Angels Of Darkness... was thinking of Deathwing, since I\'m a big Dark Angels fan, but I\'m open to others... any suggestions? Definitley Not Crossfire or Eye of Terror both were to my mind terrible.
Any of the Gaunts Ghosts books are brilliant but really need to be read in sequence! The Inquistor books are pretty good as well.
All in all the GW books are not bad reading and do not demand a great deal of the reader to follow the backdrop.
One of the best WFB era books was \'Honour of the Grave\', very well written, and quite different to the main Felix & Gotrek type of carnage.
