I would work on smoothing the transitions on the gems. Also by placing the light the way you have, you have committed to having the light source on the right (the mini\'s left). just a few degrees shy of 90 degrees, and may want to consider that when you are shading him. All in all a good start.

That sounds about right, but you may want to dilute your basecoat 1:2 paint to water (roughly) and use a few coats. Also remember to not have too much on your brush at one time, so you can control the flow.
