What does your work/paint area look like?

i too, am ashamed. i dont even know if you could call it a work space. ive goten in the habit of working in an area until it was too cluttered with mini junk to get anything done, and the move on. i paint while sitting on a stool now, seriously.

No, I didn\'t paint my sunflower curtain. And yes, I\'ve barricaded myself in my apartment so that I can\'t leave but am forced to paint instead. Actually, that\'s not my main door, this door has nailed shut and even has caulking around it on the outside to seal it and keep out drafts. I thought the window would provide good light but it turns out that light only comes that way in the mornings, but in the evenings (when I usually paint) it\'s one of the darkest coners in the place. Bah! And if my painting area looks a little unoccupied, it\'s because I removed all my WIP\'s since most are possible Wyrd Femme Fatale contest entries, so you can\'t see them!

@ Sukigod - That cabinet is cool! I\'m even surprised at how little clutter there isn\'t on the floor around it too!

And I\'m glad to see I\'m not the only one who uses a magnifying lamp. Yay to all the poor-visioned sods out there!

As you can see, it\'s one side of my wardrobe! Stops me cluttering up our only table and p***ing off my flatmates, tho. Unfortunately, it\'s also horribly dark, prone to damp and an awkward height to sit at.

I don\'t have a designated area. I\'m a strange paradox of being a messy person who hates mess so I get my paints out of the cupboard, paint a bit then put it away again.
I could easily get a little set-up somewhere in the house but one of the things I don\'t like about mini-painting is the anti-social nature of it, so I like to paint in the same room as someone so we can interact in the long-forgotten skill of conversation!

I\'m with Scott too - my missus is an absolute diamond. I\'ve so much garbage (toys, dvd\'s, comics, miniatures) kicking around the place and she never complains. She doesn\'t even get the bedroom lol

Are you in Japan?? That wardrobe looks very Japanese to me If so where abouts? Asuming you are in Japan and sharing a room as you mention housemates - do you work at one of the english schools like NOVA? Interesting to find other painters in Japan since there aint many of us!

@Arma lol You got me bang to rights there! You even guessed my employer correctly! I\'ve been over here for almost a year, and I live just outside of Tokyo. It\'s handy, \'cos I can get to all those fun places like Shinjuku and Akihabara with relative ease.

Are you a Nova goon too? How long have you been out here?

I am indeed a NOVA goon The reason I guessed is because I think only NOVA offer accommodation and that you mentioned it was shared with other house mates...

I actually work at the head office in up here in Osaka for West Japan though, doing IT/Network/Database type things for the company. I\'ve been here 2 years now.

Small world eh? If you need any sites for buying minis etc I know a lot btw (but maybe you already found them).

Tokyo got some nice stores! Even a Games Workshop! Booooo

Sorry it\'s taken so long to back to peple who asked me questions about my cabinet. I don\'t have the mfg as someone requested. It\'s really just a closable compter hutch/workstation that I got on sale at our local furniture store.

There was an unexpected benefi theough. By putting my cutting mat on the keyboard tray, I can roll it out to cut/chop/modify and I can leave works in progress, push it away and then start painting up top on the main work surface. This way, all the dust/debris from the cutting area (i also do my basing here) stays down below and doesn\'t intrude on the painting area up top.

As far a clean and not enough stuff... I am an organization freak. I almost feel guilty about not having a ton of things crammed in here. I have four large plastic tubs in a closet that carries stuff based on different parts of the hobby. One hold nothing but terrain prospects, one has all basing materials, one hold spare parts and the other holds extra paints - spray, large bottle of waterbased for terrain, etc.

I\'ve gotten in the habit of only taking out what I need and then putting it back when I\'m done (now only if I could get the kids to to this!). This was to appease the wife since she has no interest and doesn\'t think leaving this out and about as a sign of being cool (image that!).

Boy slept well last night and missus was out so I got one of my very rare opportunities to do some painting. I thought I\'d use the chance to make you all extremely jealous of the amazing painting studio I use...

Im in a bit of a dilemma because they is a huge computer work station in a second hand shop down the road, it was £40 but has been reduced to £30, its the type that would cost about £70 new, and its in tip top condition.

Im inclined to buy it because:
A) its a one time offer
B) Iv just made a load of money on ebay.

But my reasons not for buying are:
A)Iv already got a decent enough painting area (though that one is MUCH better)
B) The money could go towards paying debt.

Hhhmmmmmm, my brain hurts!

...£30 would be much better spent on more minis :twisted:

Srriously though, don\'t do it - get the debt sorted out first, you\'ve got plenty of time for spending once you\'re back on track
