What glue to use for mini to base after the base has been set and painted..

My base has been scened up and painted and now im trying to figure out what is the best way to glue him to the base..

any ideas? The base is loose dirt glued to the plastic base.then painted and drybrushed etc.

Well superglue is probably your best bet. Nothing wrong with doing it the way you did, the only issue you may have is with too much superglue you can get some of the colours leached out (at least it happens to me sometimes). Just put a dab on each foot (or whatever you\'re attaching to the base) but not too much that it\'ll spill out on the sides.

I\'m no expert, but I\'m going to guess that drilling and pinning is the best solution.

Gluing the fig\'s feet onto the finished base will just rip the finish off the base. Eventually, anyhow.

yes, pinning and superglue are the best bet.

I believe there was a thread a while ago about how to pin a mini to a base, and the idea came up of leaving a small amount of the slotta-base tab at the bottom of each foot, easier than drilling into a brittle part of a mini. (I usually do this trick and it works very well.)

this mini\'s feet are so thin that using a vice will destroy the feet and legs...so I couldn\'t pin her to base.

If you absolutely cannot pin into the feet no matter what, then at least take a knife and scratch up the bottoms of the feet before you glue them. Creating a rough surface area will give the superglue something to which it can grip to achieve better adhesion, and without the extra strength provided by pinning, you\'ll want every bit of help you can get in that department.

well Super glue is good but theres a brand of glue called gorilla glue its amazingly strong, however it isnt fast drying. something to consider

Aren\'t there some 0,3 mm drill bits out there for pins vices? That\'s about the thickness of an average staple for paper, even the more slender of miniatures could stand that.

Gorilla Glue NO!
This is a wood working glue which cures in the presence of moisture and Foams up and expends as it cures. It\'s in no way suitable for the job here.
Wood workers use it to make very tight and secure bonds but have to scrape of the excess that seeps out of the joints. It usually takes roughly 24hours to dry .

The only suggestion I would have, since you are just adding \'texture\' to a standard base, is to leave space for the feet to get glued down.

I have had a problem in the past gluing to painted areas where the glue holds but the paint does not, causing the parts to come apart leaving a big chip of paint missing.

If you have already added texture to base like I think you have then this is a pain. I don\'t think superglue will do. It\'s quick and relatively strong, but shears so easily with small knocks, especially on large objects glued together.

If the base is done, then 3 choices really I think.

1. Get rid of first base, start again by gluing mini to base first before texturing.

2. Use something like Araldite Rapid. Apply this fairly thinly and prop the mini in position until dries.

3. Use some milliput or green stuff to stabilise around the feet when glued and texture and paint.

I personally think you might be best with 1 as texture of base will prevent good tight bond with glue.

If the feet are very small (and therefore very small surface area touching), and there\'s no tab, I\'d agree with everyone else that you need to pin it and use super glue. Testors sells a pin vise that comes with a set of tiny bits that will hopefully do the trick. If you have a local hobby & model shop they should be able to help you.

If the feet were larger (more surface area) you could use 5 minute epoxy (comes in 2 parts and you mix it, you\'d want the glue not the putty). That\'s what I use to glue minis to their bases after they are painted. You have to mix it up on a piece of plastic or cardboard, then use a toothpick or similar to apply just a little to the feet. You only have to hold the mini in place for five minutes and it will dry rock hard. Just be very careful not to over apply because you will NOT get any extra off after it dries.
