WHAT HAVE GAMES WORKSHOP EVER DONE FOR US ?

I for one am always going to have a soft spot for GW, not only are they the only miniatures I have ever owned (until next payday when I\'ll be drooling over some tasty warjacks!) but the store is like a second home! Somewhere you can go to escape the nagging reality of life, to chat about new releases in your dinner hour and forget about that mountain of filing waiting for you when you get back.
I have been into GW for 15 years on and off now (god blees boobs and beer!) but always find myself drawn back into the hobby.
The only negative things I can say is that the place looks more like a youth club nowdays, and if the kids can afford the stupidly high (and soon increasing) prices then the pocket money market has gone stupid since my day!
When I heard about the next price hike (happening this monday- get buying now folks) I had to REALLY think about wether I could afford to remain a hobbyist, but thats like asking a fish not to swim!

Have no idea what this is about but DRINK!:bouncy:

Well, I wouldn\'t have started painting in the first place if it wasn\'t for GW. And I wouldn\'t be able to make a living painting without them either, so I\'d say they\'ve done a lot for me.

i started with GW, and i admit some of their models are crap (i.e. the hunchback space orcs with their intimidating arse\'s) but u have to admit the tanks look amazing... OK their not to scale (tanks in 25mm, models in 28mm) but they\'re yummy, eldar, imperial, and LOOK AT THE TITENS. best walking gun thingies ive seen to date!!!

i say hazarr for GW and their annoying, oderous staff, great models, fantastic/ thrilling history/story and interesting games (not that i play that crapola, just init for the hobby..;))

Space Hulk, one of the best tactical boardgames ever....well, 1.ed., anyways...

...plus they keep pulling people into the hobby...er...art...lots of people here would be here at all without having first encountered GW, myself included.

Yeah, there\'s other, better and more exciting minis and gaming systems around, but for sheer exposure, you can\'t beat GW\'s position at present.

GW

They sacked me once

A particularly repugnant, weasly little aresehole gave me my marching orders for absolutely nothing. Not that I\'m bitter lol (I probably would have to keep my arms clamped very firmly to my side if I ever met him again for fear of letting loose a cannon to his unpleasant little head though).

Apart from that, I suppose they\'ve been good to this hobby and regardless of how diluted, dumbed down and bland some of their products have become, they are still the outfit to beat.

Oh, yes....and once they gave me three land speeders, bunches of 40k terrain sprues and about 50 space marines at the midnight opening ceremony of the release of 4.ed. 40k....

oops, gotta go...jackie chan on the tellylol...

WTF

I like the odd GW figure but on the whole Im regularly dissapointed. I think its mainly down to missed opportunities with them.
Sort of what could be with a lot of their stuff.

Suppose it\'s time I waded in..

Games Workshop is generally a complicated issue to discuss because they exist in a number of forms.

In the past, they were great, and I loved them. They broke the mould, forged the way and achieved a number of other analogies....

Then the \'suits\' took over...:duh:

Now, they are almost complete and utter crap IMO. They have sold out their fan base, their market credibility is going down the tubes faster than a very fast thing. I have been reliably informed that they are about to put up their prices yet again (£2 for a pot of paint). This will be across the range however and I wouldn\'t buy shares in them...;)

I wouldnt either. Im quite fed up with them bleeding the hobby dry with their silly prices they up all the time. It costs a fortune to raise a new army and the paint is probably one of the most expensive on the planet. And the white dwarf is just silly. Its a big fat commercial letter.

I hope they understand that they cant go on like this forever.

I agree with you...

I suspect however, that they may have just passed, or about to pass, the point of commercial no-return.

Whilst I hate their current incarnation, I would welcome their demise as I would like to think that something more meaningful and true to their original spirit could be assembled from their ashes once the \'suits\' have f*cked off to ruin some other hobby-based enterprise.

I don\'t think the Suits ever leave. Once they are in, they never leave.

Have you noticed thatt he people who start these kinds of thread usually don\'t stick around. Its like trolling only not insulting people.;)

GW has done many things in the hobby and i believe no way would we have such big and strong community if it werent for them.

much has been said and i agree

- greenstuff
- spacehulk
- jes goodwin
- forgeworld
- nids
- business structure that inspired other companies to be created
- love/hate relations with costumers more than any other companie

heck GW kinda builted the structure of our hobby...
built, paint, compete with your minis etc...

sure theres lots of better stuff outhere but GW has credit of starting this hobbie to a great majority of hobbyists.:D
