What I did last weekend

Well I thought I would let you know what I did last weekend, instead of having a weekend off from work seven of us travelled up to Snowdonia and took part in the 2006 MS Challenge to raise money for MS Therapy Centres across the UK.

The challenge is a 10K course not far from Capel Curig and involves hills, forest, streams, lots of mud and several river crossings and through all this you have to take an MS sufferer in a wheelchair.

Teams consist of a minimum of 8 and max of 12 although I did see teams with more than 12 and our team was the smallest with just 7 of us, they were not going to let us run at first but we told them we were going to run anyway as we had not come all this way to not do so.

We only had a couple of disposable cameras with our team and we are presently waiting for them to be put on disc hopefully I will have copies by next weeend of a very muddy and very wet yours truly.

In the mean time the link below is the photo\'s from a team that ran out during the morning (we didn\'t run till the afternoon but it will give you a good idea of the event and the challenges involved that 7 of us had to tackle.

MS Challenge 2006

When I get the pictures I will put a few in this thread and also some in the PYP thread to keep RD happy :D

An excellent time with lots of  and despite the rain Saturday night I will deffinately do it again next year.
(I\'ve stopped aching now)

Thanks Scott that water was bloody cold and I ended up with two extra lumps in my throat as soon as it got waist deep :)

3 of us (happened to be the 3 oldest on the team) have run Feild Gun Crew over the years and we all agreed it was the hardest thing we had ever done, much harder than Tournament Gun Crew as that is all over in 4 minutes whereas our time for this was 3 hours 47 minutes not bad for 7 of us and a 15 stone passenger (15 stone = about 100Kg for the continentals out there)

:D Job well done!! War Griffon

I know how difficult it is to drag a wheelchair over hill and dale and your wheelchair partner must of been very brave, I get scared out of my skin when others have to physically move mine around.:eek::eek:

Thanks Guy\'s and Girls :D

If we get all our sponsor money that has been pledged we should get about £800 towards the total for the weekend.

Last year they raised £20,000 and are hoping for £30,000 this year not bad for a 3 day event.

I believe 20 teams ran Friday and Sunday with 39 teams running out on the Saturday so it was deffinately a bigger event this year.

Can we sponsor you in retrospect? I hope so!
It looks a really gruelling task that you set. Well done.

You know there are some people you are proud to call friends. Raise a , you and your team members really deserve it.

What a grand setting for the grandest of gestures. Good work WG! Next year you make sure you advertise the work beforehand and we can all chip in a few quid towards the total :D

Maybe you can get Donna to come be your center next year?

Donna, this sounds right up your alley. Lots of strapping man-flesh picking you up and carrying you off....

nice job WG. Although I wonder who is crazier, you all running the race or the blok in the wheelchair. That sounds abit on the scary side to be in that chair getting run though the woods like that. Oh and by the way, is a riksha (sp?) against the rules? lol lol

OK as promised here are a few pictures of the 7 brave idiots from HMS Nottingham that did the challenge with less than the recommended number in the team :D (I\'m the oldest at 46 and the one with the beard).

Rev and the others that have mentioned it next year I will hopefully have a bit more notice to get sponsors this year was a bit rushed as we had been at sea and out of the country fo 6 months and had only been home/back in the UK for 2 weeks.
