It seems to me that the bottom has fallen out on the fantasy/sci fi minis there are some great paint jobs out there but no one is bidding on them. What is the reason for that?

to be blunt, the economy is fucked and not many people have spare cash.
instead they are saving what spare cash they have to help them through the rough time ahead.

man i should be a news reader.

This process has been happening for an age. EVERY painted mini says \'pro-painted\' \'well-painted\' etc etc...

The big bidders are just commissioning stuff instead.

its a buyers market at the moment, you can pick up some good bargains there is a guy at the moment selling a huge eldar army completely unpainted and by the looks of it its nearly all metal

Its been a long time since I sold anything on Ebay that was fantasy -When Confrontation was the big thing now you cant give that stuff away. I guess that the economy has alot to with it also as mentioned the many and dubiously called \"pro\" painters out there. But still the good stuff is not selling unfortunate for the sellers. I guess commissioning is the way to go now?

Or are you looking to sell?

Bit of both! always looking for a bargain! but wanna get paid for my work too! ahhh the lament of the semi pro painter! LOL

Whoa, Mr. Dirge, what\'re you talking about? You can\'t get your Confrontation stuff to sell? Heck, I\'ll happily buy it off your hands if you\'re that desperate to get rid of it.

For a bargain, of course :).

I have actually noticed this as well, moreso as a recent buyer than a seller. I have recently picked up within the last year about 4000$ worth of pewter warhammer fantasy models for under 600$

that to me was un real. I bought one persons entire collection of over 1000 minis for under 100$, it was almost unreal. Nobody wants some of these 5th edition pewter mini\'s which sometimes came 2 for 8$. Stuff like chaos knights, bretonian horsemen, dogs of war box sets. They to me are all still stunning pieces and the conversion posibilites are pretty much endless.

anyway, I hope you can get rid of some of your items

hmm

yeah this sucks...

as i am finishing off a fantasy daemon army, a warriors of chaos fantasy army, a forgeworld based nurgle deathguard space marine army, and a vampire counts smaller army all for sale (2 or 3 of them will be done by end of december) to sell...but no idea if I will make how much I have seen well painted armies go for ($1500-2000). Granted, I\'m trying to do them to a much higher degree of quality than most armies on ebay, but I am affraid I may just break even or make a small profit instead :(

Also, I do not say pro-painted for my stuff since I don\'t consider my works that good. Although, for a couple recent auctions where stuff, IMHO, was done very well...like, well above average, I did put a link to my silver daemon winning model, to mention some techniques used.

i dont put pro-painted either, that only seems to fool the young ones these days, i think serious buyers are probably actually put of a bit by the title pro-painter

I managed to pickjup some wicked bargains this year. I\'m just going to buy and paint, and sell when the market picks up. It\'ll give me time to get more than a half decent paintjob for a change.

I often search \'Pro Paint\' just to see what\'s been placed. My advice would be to use it as a loss leader. Put a great mini up for shirt buttons, with a link to your website and blog, and CMON of course, and fish for commissions/sell the rest of your pieces from your own site.

If you have a good ebay reputation that\'ll help buyer\'s confidence.

And make your P&P free! If I think \"I\'d pay £20 for that\" and your P&P is £4 I\'ll bid up to £16.....but if it\'s P&P free for some reason it feels more of a bargain. I\'d be more likely to bid that extra £ or two...

Theres a flood of asian painters on ebay recently. Most of it is solid tabletop quality, but nothing more (but of cause all claim to be pro-painters :cussing:).

And there are thousands of bits from the newer GWplastic-kits. Its realy hard to find the gems between these two without spending hours upon hours browsing ebay.

I\'ve noticed this too...my store used to do amazing, now we only sell painted items occaionally.

As for the \'pro\' painters, my hubby and I look them up so we can laugh. He loves to tell me if those are all pro painted, then mine are master painted. LOL

I wish there were more second hand private sales, than there are retail stores selling at full price. I wouldn\'t be surprised if Ebay\'s visitor count was dropping due to stores taking take over. Hopefully someone will create a new and improved auction site and second handers will regain the power - woo!

I agree on the pro painter thing it is pretentious I let my work speak for itself. I mainly do historical wargame minis and they sell consistenly and for high price 15mm is very specialized and to do it well is highly sought after also I think it has alot to with demographics: historical guys are typically older with money not all but it has been my expereince in 10 years of pro painting out of 25 years of painting beleive me there are some cheap as mofos out there in historicals too!

but like 5 years ago i was painting Confron and getting $300-400 for a single big mini and id love to ell off some of my surplus Warmachine that I would love to paint and make em look sexy AND get paid LOL dream on dream onLOL
