What is it that you do for a living?

Well, i\'m Joe Friday at a bicycle shop (the kind you build them at, not the kind you sell them at).

They\'re made of a \"metal matrix\" (the way they\'re made it\'s not really an alloy) of Boron Carbide. They\'re stronger than aluminum and lighter than titanium, but are tough to work. You gum up grinding wheels super fast and it\'s tough to machine. Fun though... so i\'m really just a metal worker, but they\'ve got me doing shop matenance too.

@Joshua: Yeah, those \"green plates...\" why do they cover the copper traces anyway? i\'ve photoetched Printed Curcuit boards before and for the life of me don\'t know why the big brands always cover their traces???!

As someone that has worked in the aviation industry for almost nine years, with an A&P, FCC and R&E certification and licensing, as well as having been laid off within the last two years along with 100,000+ other airline mechanics, I suggest you find another field.

Right now, you couldn\'t get into the industry for a good ten to twelve years with as many master mechanics out at the moment - I\'ve tried, and after being laid off from Northwest Airlines, I\'m now lucky to be working for Lockheed.

Honestly .. find something else.

In my spare time, I dabble in doing the devil\'s work, which, according to most pundits, seems to be the favoured profession of the majority of my peers.....Thankless job, really.

Hi all,
I am a child care provider, (for the last five years) I spend 10-15 hours a day caring for 6-9 screaming children. I paint minis because it relaxes me after a long and loud day! Prior to child minding, I was a stay at home mom, waitress in a pool hall, while going to the Art Institute of Houston, (studied photography! Have\'nt used film is 6 years lol) and before that I was in the Army, Signal (13 signal) hmm and before that I was an apartment manager!
The funny thing is the best job of all of them was the waitress in the pool hall/bar! would do that again in a heart beat!

You are indeedy correct. One 35st patient and a bed going trendelenberg by itself caused a mild irritation to the nerves in my spine and right shoulder... (translate it as six months off sick and finding a new career)

I work in a \'medium Secure\' Psychiatric hospital. All our \'guests\' are held her on on 1983 Mental health act- they are all sectioned. I teach Art & Craft to my merry little band. Its better than teaching in a \'proper\' school, because if they try to hit you you can restrain them, you don\'t have to take it...

Having said that I love my job, it is the best in the world, I draw, I paint, I make models I steal PVA glue. And I love working with these guys and gals. I don\'t do any work, just the occasional report & paper work!

My life is good, If only it was paid better

Well today I am a chemical engineer that is working in the field of mineral processing. However if things continue to go like they did oday I am going to go and become a waiter. I can earn the same amount of money and if people give me any shit I can spit in their food.

Sorry for the rant, had a really crappy day, infact, probably one of the worst days of my life. The only good thing about it is that its almost over.

Not sure why I feel compelled to share this as it\'s not really very interesting, but I\'m a special needs teacher. I work mainly with children who have been expelled from their previous schools..... It\'s quite full on, but it\'s the only job I\'ve ever liked, even a little bit. Joe

Ooh, nice frames Itchy, how on earth do you weld metal matrix?

The covering on PCBs is conformal coating, it forms a barrier preventing corrosion and also acts as an insulator, reducing the chance of short circuits.

I\'ve told everyone before but, for those that missed it and aren\'t too bored, I\'m an IT manager for a Local Education Authority.
That generally means I have to deal with Teachers, Head Teachers, General School Inspectors, Senior Inspectors, Educational Social Welfare workers and other \"Support\" persons.

Oh and a patronising, interfering, self opinionatied, arrogant, know-all P.I.T.A .of a Youth worker, who if she spoke to the young people in her centre, the same way as she spoke to me today, would fine her car upside down and burning with her sat in it. (Won\'t say the word. Won\'t say the word.)


However my most current and satisfying role is helping out with Paint Aid.

On top of this I take on smallish building projects now and again (usually in the summer ). I did do a property development recently but I\'ll wait a while before doing that again I think
