Don\'t drybrush highlights, for starters. The best way to highlight smooth surfaces like cloth, armour etc. is \"layering\" thin washes of successively lighter colour on the high points. If you already knew this, please ignore the rest of my post...
Layering is how all the really good painters here get those amazingly real-looking highlights, with a smooth gradient between dark and light. It\'s not easy, and personally I suck at it, largely because I don\'t have the patience to do very many almost-invisible washes and so my colour transitions are too abrupt

. It\'s tough to get the paint consistency just right, people say it should be \"like milk\", which I suppose means not completely watery but not thick and gloopy either. I think that\'s just something you have to figure out yourself by doing it. But it\'s one of the things that makes the difference between 5.0 \"tabletop\" quality minis and true display pieces.
