No clue at all. Freaky looking though.

First guess would be that it was the wilted flower of an Arborvitae, but I\'m not sure which kind would make orange petals, much less flower in the first place. Might be a vegetative parasite.

Gross! I don\'t know what it is, but I\'m pretty sure fire is the only thing that can kill it.

Definitely looks like some sort of gall/parasite to me, but I can\'t find one that matches. Try cutting it open, there might be some larvae inside :)
 
Well I found out what it is so lets keep guessing until someone else figures it out.it was attached to the branch and growing on it but not from the plant itself..and no not an alien though that was my first suspicion...LOL BTW bill is closest so far.

a kind of parasite come fungus that affects mainly the conifer type plants.. I\'ve got a dried one somewhere and keep meaning o use it on a nid base.. cameacross em a bit when I did landscaping... Those orangebits don\'t come out all the time ony when the bugger is spreading it\'s love dust .. (spores)
