I am currently using Games Workshop Paint & Reaper Paint. I like them both, but it seems that Games Workshop paint dries out alot faster?

If GW\'s stuff dries out too fast, change your brand. It\'s not worth the price gouging if you aren\'t going to get any use out of it.

I use Vallejo model colours. I have tried some of the game colours, but I like the flat look of the model colours.

vallejo model colours are my new fave. up until about 2 days ago i\'d never used anything other than GW and humbrol paints, with GW paints being the ones i kept using. however, i\'ve decided the model colours are superior. they thin somewhat better, and take better to layering...plus they cover better. what more could i ask??

I like all of them, OR I should say I like the one that I grab first and is nearest to the colour I want.

I don\'t think it makes a great differance, I know Vallejo reds are alot better than GW\'s etc. But with Drying retardant/Flow enhancer etc etc I don\'t mind. I have a very eclectic mix of paints cos\' i can\'t throw paint away that isn\'t solid from age!!

My GW Sunburst Yellow is the oldest @ 16/17 years. As you can guess I don\'t paint many things yellow:D

@Ebonbuddha: I\'m sure I\'ve typed the same thing on another thread, Chug!

That\'s hilarious.

My preference, like so many others here, is for Vallejo. Reaper Pro Paints aren\'t bad, GW suck in my opinion (or at least for the techniques I\'ve started using).

Well I had a pot of GW Tin Bitz that dried up on me about a year after I bought it. The kicker was though that I had never even used it or opened it. I also had a pot of flesh wash blow up on me and the glass counter I was standing over. That was pretty damn funny, luckily I did not ruin anything of value.

As for your question I use GW, Reaper, a few nitro (OLD school GW), some old Ral Partha (mostly the silks and Satins set and of course Vallejo (both Model and game color.

I would say that Vallejo is fast becoming my brand of choice. I think that I really like the variaty of colors that they have availble. Cost is a major factor as well.

Vallejo $3.00 for 17 ml
Reaper $2.50 for 3/4 of an oz. (not sure how that translates into ml.)
GW $2.50 for 12 ml.

i usually use gw paints and a few vallejo but i really hat the fact that handling unsealed minis painted with vallejo is impossible and the ultra matt effect looks wrong sometimes.
i sampled a reaper pro paint and it seemed pretty awesome to me, stays wet a long time, good color range, cool but expensive tricolor system, skull inside the bottles (super neat!) and they are pretty thin meaning you dont have to dilute them that much but you get less paint for your money :\\

I know this problem with paint rubbing off, Joshua.... I would advise you to look for something called \"Acrylmalmittel\" from Schmincke. It is sold in a clear bottle with a green and white label, that stuff is milky. Took me some time to get the mixture right, but now that I\'ve got it, I love it. Paint flows a lot better and stays on very well - it even survived the dreaded knife test, and yes, I amstill talking about Vallejo here. It is ultra glossy though, so you will defnitely have to dullcoat it after you are finished.

so another problem arises: i dont have dullcoat ;)
but sounds pretty good, so you mix it into your paints before the painting session or could you even add it just into the bottles? would be neat :)

I use Marabu matt varnish, looks good to me. I\'ll give you a picture when my next Formor Fiend is done.

I have always mixed the Medium into the paint on my pallette, no idea what would happen if you mixed it directly into the bottles.

VALLEJO! And then anything else that aint Games Workshop!

I\'d paint my minis in Crown emulsion rather than put more money in their robbing pockets!:D

The minis would look shite, but at least the paint wouldn\'t dry out in the pot!

I vastly prefer Vallejo model color to anything else. I use my GW stuff mainly for terrain. I have some Vallejo game color, reaper master series and adikolor paints in various shades and I use them all to some degree.

Nothing covers like the MC range though, and I love the color selection.

If you want to sound \"advanced\" or better yet, lol, \"professional\" then the follower/sheep answer is Vallejo (and be sure you don\'t know WHY when asked).

REALISTICALLY though, the best paint varies color to color & batch to batch. It also depends on if you are painting actual useable GAMING figs, or just display figs that don\'t need to endure any touching or use. What you are painting specifically, also is a major deal breaker.
