What kind of modeller are you?

Having ventured into my roof-space the other day, I was horrified at how many figures I had, plus other stuff like paints, bases, bits and magazines etc.

Is it just me? Are there other hoarders of all things lead, or is everyone else very disciplined with their hobby?

I tend to buy more than I paint at the moment because I\'ve got to the stage where I really need to put a lot of time into my miniatures, but as I have a full time job, I don\'t have a lot of spare time on my hands. So one model takes me months to paint.

When I was unemployed I basically only bought what I could, and had more time to paint. So I didn\'t have a lot of spare lead lying around. Now though, I have a few boxes full of blister packs, and a number of box sets that I\'ve not yet got around to painthing. Such is the way of things!


I keep saying that I\'m not going to buy any more models, but I still do!

I think there are a ton of hoarders in this group . . Only I\'m not quite at the horrified level like tooshy is! Mostly because I have every intention of painting every thing I got - I may have a about 2-3 pounds of minis I\'ll never paint - mostly extras and duplicates

I\'m terrible...... Painfully slow at painting and very very slow at starting painting yet its only recently I have put a stop (or maybe only a restriction barring those mini\'s u need to complete an army you know the ones ) on buying more*. I have too much unpainted stuff and at my current (slow) rate of painting it would take me years to do it all.

*Please try not to get the impression I have more money then sense! lol First of all I don\'t have a large amount of money (my upainted stockpile has built up over 6+ years). Secondly I would hope that people who have met me think I have some sense when needs be hehe

I realised several years ago that to call myself a painter was a misnomer. As a painter I fail miserably in all dimensions. As a \'collector\' however I am very successful.

Taking inspiration from our government, who have a penchant for this sort of thing, I therefore transformed myself overnight from crap painter into arch-collector (who does a bit of painting on the side). Problem solved.lollol

I used to be a \"gamer\" but could never get enough stuff painted. So I became a \"painter\" to try and get enough stuff so I could game. And now I too am more of a \"collector\" who paints so he can game . . .

I doubt there\'s a painter in the world who can paint as fast as they can buy (assuming money is not too tight). That\'s how I justify it. That said, I\'m not doing too badly lately, I was Mini-a-Week\'ing for a while and I haven\'t bought anything in a couple of months! Of course there\'s still some pewter (maybe 50-60 minis) stored away... But I\'m saving some choice pieces for when my skills improve.

Ah, I am truely amongst friends

I too will adopt Finns re-classification as I am a consumate collector, who paints not nearly as often as I should/could.

I have boxes of stuff! Some of it is really early GW stuff, which must be at least 10 years old if its a day. Ebay here I come!

I think my problem is I don\'t buy just one figure - I buy LOTS. Rackham called the other day, saying they\'d run out of figures and could they buy back some of mine. I\'m sure the owner of Rackham has a picture of me above their bed! lol

I\'m ashamed to say I have a grand total of 45 Rackham mini\'s to paint I think I need help! Perhaps I\'m missing something in my life......oooh yeah, that new Devourer mini.....must get that.....

i have a really small concentration span so i will spend ages sculpting/prepping a mini but will get bored halfway through the paintjob when i see something else i like. too many new releases! i was ok before i found this site - oblivious to the beauty of confrontation minis and others. now i have a massive list of stuff that i want to buy but i know i\'ll never have the time to paint! maybe i should start working part-time in a few years to catch up!!

the main prob is that i start my first proper job in august so i\'ll have a proper income. this will mean less time to paint and more money to spend - aaargh

For every miniature I paint, I\'m allowed to buy 10 new ones

Of course.... I buy much more than that, but the rule is still cool

That is a cool rule Inge and one I intend to adopt immediately... with one small revision.
For every miniature I prep and undercoat I am allowed to buy 25 new ones.

I might have a slim chance of keeping to this onelol:bouncy::flip:lol

Seriously though, I too am more of a collector. I\'ve still got to finish my Chaos Space Marines army, and I promised my fiancee that I\'d paint her Space Marines (pink!). Once those are done, I\'ll be doing ok. Luckily(?!) money is tight right now, so I can\'t go crazy buying minis (though God knows I want to )

I had a cunning plan

I am convinced that as the current government is doing such a good job over pensions I need a hedge against the future.

My reasoning was that I will have so many OOP models stored away and their value will go up - I won\'t even need to paint them.

When I retired I could sell them off to collecters/painters/etc who will be desperate to get their hands on these rarities.

Unfortunately this relies on demand being higher than supply - reading about the number of others hoarding away their mini treasures this dream seems to be crashing in flames.

Oh! well back to the loft - now where are those comics?

I can\'t stand having unpainted figures around. Primarily, the only ones are gifts that I had no interest in painting (or had already done one), or were parts of sets I was not interested in.

Since I have learned to paint fairly efficiently, I can keep up with buying figures.

Okay, I know EXACTLY what you mean, only you made a spelling mistake on the word POURING which, of course, was supposed to be rendered PORING. And now, having seen the image in my head of someone excitedly POURING over something, I can\'t bloody dislodge it!

How does pouring work? It sounds terribly rude to me so I imagine you all know kind of why I can\'t get that phrase out of my head!
