What makes people creative?

@ Bill:

I don\'t know if it\'s fact or not, but I\'ve heard it said by some people that I consider to be quite intelligent that \'art\' actually predates the spoken word as we know it.
Cave paintings are believed to be the telling of tales about people\'s activites, either recent or of past generations.

Can this be verified? Not to my knowledge.

For all I know, the people were yanking my chain, but I like the theory, myself.

If you realise physics and lighting in a true sence that makes (or can make) you a good painter. Is that the same as being creative???
I\'m wearing my phylosophical pants tonight!

I\'m not sure if I spelt that right...I don\'t care! lol

Starting about 160,000 years ago, (Wikipedia article about human evolution), and for a long chunk of the natural history of homo sapiens, we just went about our daily lives without leaving any evidence of creative expression. Then, about 40,000 years ago, (Wikipedia article about art history), almost over night, paleologically speaking, humans started painting on cave walls, carving sculptures out of bone, wood and stone essentially creating what we consider to be art. For some spiritually minded people, this is the advent of the soul and evidence of a higher spiritual being. It could be said that creativity is what divides divides us from the lesser creatures; creatures such as garden spiders, conch snails and NASCAR fans.

I reckon it\'s a case of survival. We had to be creative to survive in prehistory, and I\'m sure it\'s a trait that carried on through. Now we have more time to utilise that part of our repertoire as we are comfy in our position as rulers of the earth (or so people would have us believe!)

Personnally I think it is a need or strong desire to step out of the box and be a little differant in a world that constantly tells us to act normal and be like everyone else.DD:cool:

MmmI dunno. If something takes my fancy I just go for it, just turns out i\'m a bit twisted and end up that little bit \"special\" :p
I just enjoy creating stuff, painting, drawing even a little sculpting.
Why do I enjoy it? Thats the base question! I don\'t know, it\'s just a personal preference I suppose.
Desstroying things is quite fun too...Thats why I like building snowmen and sandcastles! lol

I\'ve had ideas for paintings and sculptures just \"pop\" into my head. Sometimes I\'ll just close my eyes and an image will appear and I\'ll concentrate on it and make sketches from it. It used to really cheese off the metal sculpture instructor at the art center I used to go to.

It\'s true, you try to force and it\'s never what you wanted, much better to not hold too tight too whatever it is you start with and let things evolve creation/evolution. Is that a little vague.
Incidently, Hieronymus, saw you photo on the pyp 3 thread, great.
now thats creativity.
