I\'ve just realised that this is innaccurate as I can remember painting Airfix 1/72 Napoleonics, well before that date.
Then there were Hinchcliffe 1/72 Napoleonics as well.

Some Eldar dudes I bought in the early nineties after finding an old white dwarf in a bin. I also used enamels and they looked like shite.
My first was a Ral Partha Paladin (posted as a pic, in some thread or another), which I bought already painted, and painted over that (without stripping it) when I was twelve, in Testors Enamels.
After that, I got Ral Partha\'s dwarf box set and halfling box set, because the hobby shop in the neighbourhood was selling them really cheap, together.
Funnily enough, 20 years later, I won an auction on Ebay for a lot of about 120 minis, and those same halflings and dwarves, complete with my own original paint jobs (rather chipped but definitely my work), were a part of that lot.
God only knows how many times they changed hands between me and coming back to me again.
After that, I got Ral Partha\'s dwarf box set and halfling box set, because the hobby shop in the neighbourhood was selling them really cheap, together.

I don\'t even know the name of the company, but it was 1/35 scale WW2 figures and testors paint for me.
That was probably early-eighties.
As far as \'metal\' miniatures, I had a few, but the one that really got me going was an Old Citadel Ogre. I repainted him a few years ago. Still one of my favorites.

[edit] Vike - I remember that ogre. I liked only a couple of the GW ogres. By far my favorite was the fully-armored one without helmet. Can\'t find a picture at the moment.

Some of these 1/32 Airfix British Commandos. They were my dads and I used his Humbrol enamels on them. I would have been about 8 or nine...
Career makes it sound like I\'ve actually accomplished something. 
Actually painting a mini-wise, I think it was the old plastic Dark Elf swordsmen. I bought them mostly to mess around with color schemes.
What actually got me interested in the first place was the Eldar Falcon grav tank\'s release while I was working at the Game Center.

Helga heres a side note on the bridge of sorrows..there is a weak point in the dragons tail where it attaches to the bridge..I think Jeff((dragon forge)) will confirm this..unless its one with plastic wings..its so top heavy every one ive seen eventually starts leaning over..so a pin thru the tail possibly into a wooden base would be good.btw thats a awesome piece when its assembled..Denis Beauvais..gotta love his stuff

Good question! Not much of a carreer per se but I started with um...hm...think the first thing that got me into painting/modelling miniatures was a self built remote control airplane in my early teens. Soon followed by some military vehicles and such, things like apache helicopters and those battleships with the big guns and flight decks, the names escape me ATM.
Couple years later I got back into it with a Dragonlance Huma\'s Silver Dragon by Ral Partha and a bunch of those wooden insect and dinosaur kits lol
Several years later I got back into it for the last time seeing some WH 40k Eldar my GF\'s cousin (GF at the time) showed me and I was hooked. Next pay cheque I went to the local GW and spent it all (well the disposable portion anyway, somewhere around $900 I think it was) on a huge lot of Tyranids and paints.
Thank god for acrylics, Testors enamels were killing far too many of my brain cells.

again, no career. but i originally had some lead wood elves and a lead tyrion and phoenix guard. painted the armour green because i thought it was a grey metallic (damn colour blindness!) in undiluted crap hobby paints. shite they were so they were stripped. the first i have that\'s still around is this one
I once built a 1/52 titanic miniature. That might be how it all began...
However, that was a single project only. My first real miniature that made mini painting becoming a hobby of mine actually was a Games Workshop hover bike two years and some months ago. I painted it in a nice camo style because I assumed it to be a Space Marine bike. I\'ve never found out the truth about it, but hey, I\'ve never tried to, too.
