What\'s all this then?

I saw in the shout box a small thread about a Good Ol Boy network at CMON.

I\'m a frequent troller/contributor/forum poster and havent noticed anything that would lead me to that conclusion.

Can anyone give any evidence of that?

just curious . . maybe I\'ve been blind . . .

I stated my position in my shoutbox - while the more senior members here will of course be more familiar with each others\' work, and have more specific interests in terms of the minis they like and dislike, I think they\'re also LESS likely to vote unfairly than people who are new to the site. All communities (meat-space _and_ internet) have social networks, so a newbie isn\'t going to get as warm a reception as an old hand. I think somebody just felt they were being ignored because not enough people were voting on their pics (or maybe they didn\'t like the score they got). But believe me, I\'ve had experience with ACTUAL cliquey web communities, and in comparison, this place is a regular love-in ;)

Actually...

I think that a good paintjob always gets a warm reception from the viewers here, no matter if it is from an Old Boy, or a complete n00b.

A Slightly-Less- Than-Stellar paintjob, on the other hand, might get better votes if it is from one of the older posters here.

This might sound a bit unfair to the new comers, but that\'s just the way things seem to be around here.

My advice: Don\'t put too much importance on the ratings, keep at it, and observe wich ways you can improve your skills.

I\'ve not really noticed a particularly cliquey atmosphere to this site. Of course you\'re going to get users that know each other quite well and do their fair share of back slapping, but I don\'t think the group on the whole is in any way exclusionist!

There is a group of users that make regular use of the shout box, just like there are those who regularly contribute to the forums, but that\'s not indicative of an old boys network.

I agree that perhaps well known names may have their work rated far more highly than a complete unknown! That kind of thing happens in all walks of life. In this case it\'s the long time pro\'s and ex-GW staff who are lauded over. That\'s reputation for you. Hopefully one day all my 7\'s will be seen as 8\'s!

:D
