What\'s with movies?!

I don\'t know if it was before or after the Flubber film...but I remember that little pip squeak from a TV show that starred Jeff \"you might be a redneck\" Foxworthy.

Lets blame him.lol

just wait until he hits 17, and decides he wants to change his image, and does something like puting out a rap video where he\'s \"hard core\" with the booty chicks.

Oh, it can get worse

I agree. Pirates was just too long and slow at the start. I always use looking at my watch as a gauge. Despite their lengths, I never looked at my watch during any of the LOTR movies or the Da VInci Code. At Pirates, I looked at my watch three times in the first hour!!

Movies ought to be just the length needed to tell the story. That\'s pretty simple. But, as has been said, Hollywood tends to be filled with spineless, moronic copycats. LOTR movies were long so everything has to be long.

Of course, they\'re not alone. Been to the fantasy section in the bookstore lately? Does anyone write a fantasy story that is not at least a triliogy anymore? And is it really necessary for each volume to be at least 1200 pages long :cussing: Selling literature by the pound!!!

I read just the other day in the paper that he had run his car into a concrete pillar. He\'s slipping, I\'ll tell you! :)

This annoys me as well. That\'s why I rarely read Fantasy anymore... These \"New York Times Bestselling\" authors (as they\'re always labeled) have turned Fantasy litterature into a soap opera genre! :flame:

*Possible SPOILERS

I\'m a part of AA. Anonymous A.I. lovers. It\'s the little mechanical bear I think. :) No actually.. I think it is a great movie, except for the ending.

So I do agree with the length.. why couldn\'t it have stopped at the bottom of the ocean? That would have been an awesome and terrible ending. Very fitting for the film. I blame Spielberg for that part.. he always have a weak heart for happy endings and need to tell the \"whole story\".

@Eric: He is already 18. And I don\'t agree that he is a bad actor, he has an intensity rarely seen in adult actors even. I rank him as one of the best child actors in rescent years.

I agree with Avelorn...I think Haley\'s an incredible actor.

He and Dakota Fanning give me hope for the future of actors.

Not like the likes of Ben Affleck, who has the SAME damn facial expression in every movie.

\'Course, the same could be said of Keanu Reeves...but at least he\'s smart enough to know it and put himself in movies where it works!

I would say Haley Joel Osment is working in the same tradition...

Ritual - I have to disagree with you there...I think he\'s shown more talent in his short timeframe as an actor than Affleck or others will EVER show.

Who knows? Maybe he\'ll lose the knack for it, but I hope not.

I\'m one of the first to talk smack about Keanu Reeves\' acting ability.

But I WILL say this: He does a good job of picking roles that suit his \"lack of facial expression.\"

A friend of mine once had me cracking up when he told me to watch any Keanu movie and add the word \"dude\" to the end of every line Keanu says.

I still can\'t think of that without smiling...:D

Think about THAT the next time you watch the Matrix!

I stand by my opinion about Osment. I haven\'t enjoyed a single one of the films I have seen him in and his acting abilities didn\'t help...

I do agree that Ben Affleck and Keanu Reeves are painfully bad though. Keanu Reeves manages to ruin Dracula completely for me (with a little help from a seriously over-acting Anthony Hopkins...) and for that I\'ll never forgive him.

Ritual, you\'re entitled to your opinion.

Even if it IS wrong...(j/k)

Watch Dracula again, adding \"dude\" to the end of every line...

Yeah, I agree with movies being too long lately. Only a truly epic film like the LOTR films needs to be over 2 hours.

I also really enjoyed AI and have no problem with Haley Osment as an actor :)

has anyone else noticed this, the new super hero movies like spiderman and superman are trying to hard to get all viewers to like them, with the love stories and action, it was almost like they were trying to make 2 diffrent movies towards two diffrent demographics in one movie. i was for one disapointed, or is it just me.

You are right about the romance element being \"thrown in\" to just about every big movie nowadays, whether it is appropriate or not. I don\'t have a problem with it if it is done well, but often it appears strained. I think the LOTR films are good examples of this. Although reasonably well done, the Aragorn/Arwen thing was much more subtle in the books, and I don\'t think it added much to the films. Let\'s face it though, the film industry is in it to make money. The larger the demographic they can appeal to, the happier they are.

I really didn\'t think Pirates Of The Carribean 2 was too long, it was all fun to me, and I didn\'t get bored, so I didn\'t notice the time until at the squid attack on the Black Pearl I thought \"Bloody hell this is long\" but it didn\'t annoy me. I haven\'t seen Superman Returns so I can\'t comment on that.

Gee Ebbon you expect these people to have an attention span of 2 1/2 hours when they can barely keep a thread going for 1 page. Bring back the 90 minutes movies I say.
