What\'s Worse?

D\'uh I wonder why that is?
As I have mentioned before we rarely have to refuse to approve comments, BUT that doesn\'t mean that we don\'t have to throw some rubbish in the bin.

Most often I see the good kind fo crit that will say something like \"I like the color scheme but the highlights need to be more apparent\" or the like. I think the core posters of the site are pretty well behaved in this regard.

I have to admit that I do see a lot of responding comments critical of commentators with no evidence of their own \"capabilities\". To me that is a lot like arguing wit yourself as 99% of the time the commentators never return to the scene of their crime.
As has been said before their are two very visibly distinct groupings within Coolminiornot, Forum posters and Gallery commentators. They are not mutually exclusive, but the number of commentators I see who are not active forum members is very distinct from the active (and very verbal) group who form the \"backbone\" of this community.

Comments & High scores are nice, but no-one is as bad a critic of my work as me!

I vary wildly between \'dude that rocks\' comments to some proper constructive criticism.

What ammuses me alot is people with NO knowledge giving Historical advice on historical miniatures, that Heraldry is incorrect etc etc...

I think both groups are equally worse.

I find it hard to criticize the work of others as I usually don\'t have any clue to what their intent is. If I know that they\'re shooting for a certain style, let\'s say a \'Eavy Metal or Rackham style paint job, then I\'d have little problem telling them where they\'ve succeeded and where they need more work. Otherwise, I just don\'t feel right saying \"The shadows need more/less emphasis\" or \"These value transitions should be more subtle\" without knowing more about their intent.

Personally, I feel you\'re better off asking for help on the forums than you are in putting your work up for votes.

yeah im a very harsh cridic on my stuff, but i hate it when people just are like...

i hate your style.

its like ok thanks for the help! Ill work on that buddy!!!! ;)

Its a different story if somebody says, i dont like your style but what i would suggest is for you to add some more colors to your models with your style involved as that may ect ect ect

while both groups like that do wind me up any kind of snideyness or rudeness is annoying the group that really do piss me off are the CMON police as I like to group them...

The ones that when somebody say scores an 8 when most are putting tens.. The person putting the 8 has a valid point and in most cases state why it\'s that score for them and says what THEY think is wrong.. They then get jumped on by the CMON police.. self appointed A\'holes that generally have no gallery or may have had a model score 9 once or read a painting guide or two or bought a DVD and are the expert of everything painting related and jump all over the person leaving the 8 generally with rude insults at the person ... they really piss me off...
e.g
10 .joeblob... brilliant
10 ..frankenvoter... amazing work
8....wannahelpguy.... Really nice but the red just isn\'t quite working and the base colours do clash a bit and let the piece down in my eyes ...
10...wanker...... what ?? 8 ???wannahelpguy you must be blind this is the greatest mini in the history of the world ever and your mother obviosuly fondled goats ...

(wannahelpguy dissappears never tobe seen again)

How many people are dissuaded from giving critique that will be helpful to people by thse flag burning arseholes.....:cussing::cussing:

it\'s a simple fact when a piece is at say 8.5 or lower and it has 40 comments all scoring 10 then there have been a fair few 10\'s cast but also lower scores to get the average . Those leaving the lower scores could have a better input than the majority who leave ten...for me taking the scores off of comments would go a long wa to increasing the amount of crit people receive.

it should be absolutely no other persons place to slap down somebodies own opinion and even if with best intentions defend somebody elses work that should be down to the creator of the work.... If it were down to these people there would be no forward movement in the hobby as everything would have to be the certain style in certain colours presented in a certain way with a certain light source and a certain base make up and things would get boring.. something that strangely enough is actually happening...

anyway rant over .. bed.

lol Wow, you summed that up beautifully!

I\'ll weigh in on this. I\'ve only posted two of my own minis, and I felt really good about the comments I got on them. I\'m the first to admit myself to be inexperienced, and I\'m not going to make excuses, if I really wanted to I could get painting time in after the kidlets go to bed. (Sorry, started on a tangent, back to the subject at hand) I like seeing general complements, like \"great work,\" because they make the painter feel good about their work and encourage them to keep painting, but I prefer to see something a little more specific, like \"great work, especially on the hair.\" I really don\'t like seeing \"did you paint that with your ass?\" or something similarly criticising without any redeeming qualities. If you want to criticise, pinpoint the flaw, and offer a helpful suggestion. Nobody posts their pics so that they can be torn down. If they made an effort to paint, photograph, and post, then I think they deserve comments that are helpful or somehow useful.
