What Scale Do You Prefer?

So, I\'ve been playing around a bit with some other scales and was wondering what the general crowd here had to say about that topic.

Also, I\'m noticing that it looks like the Warlord stuff is just about the same as 1/35 (at least, 1/35 Tamaiya). Anyone else have any scale similarities to share?

It really depends - I don\'t do \"art\" miniatures - only gaming ones so the size needs to suit the game. For Fantasy and skirmish games then 25/28 is about right but for all my historical Horse & Musket Age battles then I prefer 15mm as I can get many more troops on the table without losing significant detail..

Well,

I would say that currently its 32mm but thats only because I really like Confrontation. What matters more to me is the type of figure, overall style, whether it fits with what I like to collect (anything furry or scaly) and how well it is sculpted. :D

I am really into the larger scale models at the moment, as I like getting to grips with single figures and find the results more satisfying. Although painting these devourers has given me a taste for large models of a smaller scale as the detail can be more intricate, and they always look imposing next to my opponents Tir Na Bor! :D

But I voted 54mm

So, here\'s a pic of a Tamaiya 1/35 scale samurai dude and a Warlord orc. I think that they definitely could be used on the same table.

28-35 mm. The label on the mini as to what it\'s scale is usually doesn\'t mean a whole lot to me. I don\'t particulaly like the old 25 mm scales much. Too flimsy for me, but the LotR 25 mm\'s are good. I guess what\'s more important to me than the scale, is the fact that I be able to fit a human size character on a 25 mm base.

As I only paint for my own pleasure I probably will not paint anything smaller than 28mm. Most of the stuff I\'m doing now is Military, 1/35 scale. Recently though, I picked up a couple of Confrontation minis. Now I just have to find the time to paint them...

Reckon you should have made this one multi choice.

I do a lot of the small scale stuff but also enjoy the larger scales as well and at the end of the day I will paint anything from 6mm Epic to 90mm Historic/Fantasy.

Seriously though, I\'ve been starting to play with more scales (1:72, 1:35/32, 28mm and 32mm), so I was just wondering what others have played with and which they liked best.

I am starting to like 1:72. Some of the models (Italeri especially) have really nice detail, and the bonus is that they tend to be cheap! The biggest problem with anything other than 28mm/30-32mm (GW and Warlord/Confrontation) is finding fantasy or sci-fi stuff. Those other scales tend a lot more towards hitorical stuff.

Not really. GW stuff is 28mm, and Rackham is definitely bigger. Warmachine stuff purports itself to be 30mm (says in the rulebook), and I think Rackham\'s bigger than them, too.

The Warlord stuff seems to be the same scale as Rackham. They might be calling themselves 30mm, but they definitely look closer to 32mm. I don\'t have a human of either of those around, but the Rackham Barbarian Giant is 52mm from base to eye, and the Spectre of Acheron is 48mm from base to where eyes would be if he had them. ;)
