What size chain is in scale?

I\'m hoping to do a conversion of a mini by creating a dire flail. However, I would rather use some craft/jewelry chain than try to create some with green stuff. The haft and heads will be made with green stuff.

I would like some advice on choosing the chain size. My wife\'s jewelry supply company has multiple sizes of chain ranging from .4mm up to over 5mm. The size I\'m currently considering is 1.5mm. Does that sound like a good scale size for a typical 28/34mm mini? Or is there a better source for such chain?

I\'m afraid I have no idea.
It sounds like you are in a better position to tell than any of us.
You can hold a mini up to a chain (if you only have a catalog, you can always go to a jewelry or craft store and ask) to see what looks best.
Since in RL, chains come in all sorts of sizes, there won\'t be one \"correct\" size for chain.

5\' = 25mm is 1:60 scale.

What size links to you want on your chain? 1.5mm would be about 4.5\" links. I would think that would be a bit large for a flail. Something like 0.5 mm would be closer to scale.

BUT, lots of things are enlarged and disproportioned in minis. Try it and see if it looks right.

I bought some \'mini\' chain from Micromark, an online mini-tool specialist.

This is what it says about it:

Miniature chain for that extra level of authenticity. 20 links per inch. Chain is .062 inch wide; wire diameter is is .015 inch. Bronze color. 3 feet length.

Sadly, they have discontinued this product, but I have some and it is a very good scale for miniatures.

Becca came up with a splendid idea ,,,
She bought earrings at the outlet store with the long dangle chains.
Works great correct size and easy to dismantle and adapt.
Hope it helps

Thanks for your help

That\'s a lot of help. The larger chain would look silly, but the place my wife orders from (firemountaingems.com) does have the smaller chain, so maybe I\'ll see if the wife needs any of that next time she orders.

I was thinking of hitting up consignment/pawn shops for chain, but those costume jewelry and outlet stores are usually just as cheap. Hadn\'t thought of those.
