It\'s been a really long time since Football (Premier League) had anything to do with sport. Now it\'s all business and profit.
Three or Four Years ago Manchester united were severley criticised by the Football Association for changing their football strip four times in the same season. Of course they sold the new strips at exactly the same price as the old and fans were expected to just cough up the cash. (Sound familiar anyone?)
I lost all respect for Football when they paid £15 million pounds to bring Alan Shearer to Newcastle United and in the same week closed two Mental Health units which could have been funded for 4 years on that amount.
Is that all? There is pratically a Civil War over a new football stadium for the NY Jets. Price tag: 1 BILLION Dollars! The city has been laying off hundreds of cops, closed dozens of firehouses, and has made MAJOR cut backs in education.Yet they have the money for a stadium. Before you say anything
Rev, this is going to be paid for by the city, NOT THE TEAM, so it will come out of taxpayers pockets. People are absolutely furious over this.
The real reason behind it - the city wants the 2012 Olympics held here. You can read about the whole debcle
Here.
It may sound as if I\'m against it, but I\'m not. I live in the suburbs, so all the cutbacks the city makes has no effect on me, and I can enjoy the new stadium with only an hour drive. I wouldn\'t mind having the Olympics close enough for a quick ride. Mmmmmm... figure skaters...
