It may take 3 months to evict a person legally depending where you live. If you get the cameras if you can and hook them up to a recording system. I pretty sure voice taping is a felony unless the person is approving of it.
Wild idea disclaimer ...Ask the landlord for a dog, it may possibly be out of the question I imagine but, that was my cure for a nasty person in the back yard.
I got a great dane, and cameras and the trouble ended the next day a smaller barker might help no matter who did it ...potentially you would be woken up.
Hope things ease for you the "keep an eye over the shoulder is annoying at best...

I live in the country too! Guess stupidity is starting too go out of the cities too...

That could very much look like a 'warning' by some group of bikers or whatnot, more than a fit of anger... I'll have to look into that too.

I'm betting we have different definitions of "country". lol
It takes me 4 hours to mow my grass (on a 48 inch cut yard tractor, no less) and my nearest neighbor is around 600 yards away and that's family.
I actually have wildlife in my yard. (snakes, possums, raccoons, squirrels, and the occasional fox and/or alligator.)
If you listen very carefully at night you can hear the dueling banjos in the distance...

Heh, where I live, in Italy, I have sort of the same problem.
I am in a building full of old people.
We have some private parking places, but not numbered.
In 2 years of living here, I got my car's paint scratched five times, and the front glass broken by a BIG stone.
All vandalism, and all done by old people.
I know because my other "old people" neighbours told me that other think that they own the place, and especially the parking places (which are too few for all of us).
So if you park somewhere they don't like, they scratch your car.
I considered a lot of times the sec camera.
The point is, they do it during the night, since there are a lot of people going during the day. so a sec cam... well, won't really work.
At least, I'm insured vs. vandalism.
but it still costs me 100-150 € as franchise everytime.
So right now, I'm keeping the last three scratches to my car. One day, I'll repair it, again.
If someday I find a way to get a cheap sec cam that can watch during the night, then I will buy it and install it.
Then, I will put the car in a precise place where I legally can park but where I know it will get scratched, and I will wait.
When I'll find out the guy that do this, I won't tell him anything.
I'll wait some 6 months, and then wrack his car, life, everything tenfold.
No pity for vandalism.

i had that problem with my old place. bloke claimed that the area outside his house was his car parking spot. used to put cones it it, despite that it was illegal (i checked with the police), none of the traffic wardens did anything. i parked outside once as i had loads of shopping and it was the closest space to mine. he flew over and gave me a ton of abuse. rediculous. he was a right thug. he then moved his car right up against mine so i couldnt move it. good job i had the day off. his missus ended up giving him a blazing row and made him move it. it's a shame because if she was a bitch, i would have left it there but as it was, i didn't want to piss her off when she had done that for me...
Make it SIX (last night).
I'm angry, but at least, the car being already scratched, there's no more real damage.
I've checked on internet the sec cam with infrared.
They're less expensive than I thought.
However, I have to see if it is legal in Italy (I have a legal office in my society, so no problem), and the distance I have to cover with infrared etc.
Plan will be in motion in early 2010.
I'll repair the car, and will patiently wait.

Yeah, IR cameras aren't that expensive these days. A word of advise though, make sure you get a camera with a built in IR LED system or you will have to buy a secondary lighting system.
I use Watec's all the time at work, good, cheap, disposable.
(They have to be since the Synchrotron Radiation tends to screw cameras up pretty quickly. Shielding the cameras themselves would cost more than replacing them so...)
Sony puts out some good cameras as does Cohu, but you will pay out the nose for a Cohu.
Also check out the different methods for installing, IP/Network is pretty cool since you can then use your computer. It is also pretty inexpensive to hook up a single camera system if you buy the right vid card.
I use a MUX system with BNC cables, however I would not recommend this system as it relies on multiple monitors and MUXs are not cheap.
Also remember motion sensor to save on hardrive space, or you can get someone who knows some programming to kick the recording on if so many pixels move on the camera. Unfortunately, I don't know how to do that, only that it can be done.

ugh, thats awful man. nothing worse than a crappy neighbor. i bet it was him. sounds like he's a hothead. best not to bring it up though, as you said. i'd only end badly - use the landlord as a go-between, and ask him not to involve you.

I have an uncle in MTL to whom similar thing happened, it seems parking spaces are a real fight starter, especially if there are not enough for everyone. Gotten so bad the whole building is against him now and he has to watch his car, his patio.. everything.
I can't imagine is bad this feels, I only have one neighbor to watch and it's making me nervous.
I'm gonna call the landlord today see if he's done anything about it, I really don't want to go see the guy directly, I can be diplomatic when I want but this is beyond my skills.
Anyway, we wanted to know what the guy was bitching about all day long, so my girlfriend kinda spied on him by listening through the floor with a glass. Turns out the neighbor bitch at the tv! He's home alone listening to the tv and talking to the character, really intensely.

Hi GreenOne, most of my most explosive & offensively vulgar outbursts are emitted at high volume whilst sat on my own in the living room watching inane crap on the TV (Radio gets the same treatment mind). I'm still able to answer the door to the JWs for the fourth weekend in a row & civilly decline their offer to save my soul though (a fifth week may just prove to be too much I confess).

Oh no, not soap operas, I gave up on Eastenders after a particularly brutal & horrific episode that I'm sure the BBC would claim was an accurate portrayal of domestic violence, I found it a grotesque sadistic piece of torture-porn that should never have been broadcast, let alone in the early evening. I similarly gave up on The Archers after Radio 4 decided the rape of a woman was something that should be transmitted into my home for Christmas.
My ire is usually directed at news presenters/interviewers because I want them to be journalists. Politicians because they can't even be bothered to lie any more, just dance around the question. Adverts, particularly the ones that find it acceptable to portray all men as insignificant cretins whilst all women are strong, quickwitted & able, sexist scum. Bankers who earn 6 figure sums refusing to comprehend that the majority of the country live off less than 20k a year (before tax). And on, and on, and on...
Of course I'm painting at the same time, so once I've rinsed my brush I can change channel. I no longer force myself to watch Question Time or Newsnight all of the way through regardless, I think my head would've exploded by now
