Sorry if this has already been posted, but I just looked at GW\'s website and there are no dates listed for Atlanta GD!!!! They list Baltimore, LA, and Chicago, but no ATL!! What is the deal? Does anyone know?

Simple: there isn\'t a GD in Atlanta this year.

Did they release any information regarding why? I went to all 4 and thought attendance was pretty good.

Wll they disagreed apparently. Compaired to the others, Atlantas attendance was far less and the entries to the Golden demons was less than the others. So 3 GD east the Mississippi was to many Im afraid.

I hate to say it but this isn\'t anything new. There were rumors after GD Atlanta that they were going to cut it from the Roster. Seems to be happening a lot actually. First GenCon SoCal and now GD Atlanta. What\'s the next Con that will die?

come on south to GrailQuest this summer. (if they have it.)
Grumb & I should be there.
It\'s no GD, but it has a paint contest and games.

Yet more ways to isolate the customer base...

Too many other great mini companies around to fret about that one....just back another horse!

Honestly, I\'m a little bit relieved. I was having serious doubts that I\'d have time to complete the entries I wanted to do this year, and it looks like I\'ll have even less time than I\'d expected.

Still, it sucks since it means missing hanging out with the gang.

Do you have details on this event? I was also thinking of Trinicon in Raleigh-Durham, as they have a painting comp.

Kep, any chance you might go to Baltimore? That gives you until June to complete entries. I told my wife I might go up there, but it would be rough trying to take her and the kids, as we did for GD ATL.

Well conventions like any business (and yes conventions are businesses) need to operate at a profit or well they go out of business. Gen Con Socal never made a profit so they discontinued it.. If games Day Atlanta didnt make a profit, well then GW discontinued it. It has nothing to do with disloyalty to a customer base.. they couldnt operate at a loss anymore.. This would go for any convention or bsiness. If people don\'t attend the convention..you cant run it.. pure and simple.

There are 3 Games days.. you can go to any of them.. hey most of us who attendhave to drive from out of state or fly to attend them so why can\'t you? Id love to have a GD here in Cincinnati but its never going to happen so its either Drive 7 hours to Chicago or drive 10 hours to Baltimore..or Pay to fly at a minimum of $300.00 or so.

That\'s the odd thing, GD isn\'t a convention. Other cons are a meeting of manufacturers, companies, home businesses and other outside vendors and participants. GD is just a large advertising space for one company. Kind of a mix of a shareholder meeting and a guided tour of GW as a company.

It\'s still classified as a convention though. I mean, if my archaeology meetings are considered conventions then I\'m sure Games Day would fall under the umbrella.

DFD is right though. If they aren\'t pulling in enough people to make a profit then they are going to discontinue it. Conventions take a lot of time, manpower and money to put together. Anyone who\'s worked at a convention as a volunteer knows how much organizing it takes and the level of dedication.

Gen Con SoCal I worked in 2005 and 2006. 2005 I thought was HUGE! Then I went to Indy and socks were blown off. Then I went to 2006 . . . there were way fewer vendors because they couldn\'t make money because not enough people were coming and that then turns into well if certain companies arent going to be there or certain events then people aren\'t going to want to go . . . vicious cycle really.

I\'m not surprised, TBH. From the first year it seemed to me that attendance and participation in the Demons was down every year.

But it still has to make a profit to cover the overheads.
Which is why, I\'ve been told, there will be no Conflicts in the UK this year.
