The original Gen Con currently held in Indianapolis and previously held in Wisconsin is still going very strong. They had tried to start up a second one in southern California running in late Nov or early Dec, and after a few years pulled the plug on it. I didn\'t get a chance to attend, but IMHO it seems like part of the problem is they (and vendors) expected it to do like half the numbers of the original straight out of the gate instead of starting modestly and building up. Also the first year there were problems with vendor costs being a lot higher than they were used to due to union regs in Cali or something like that, though I think they got that sorted in later years. Based on some comments on a board game forum I\'m on, people who go to western-based cons aren\'t used to paying even modest fees for individual events on top of a con pass, so perhaps that\'s a factor, too.
There are Gen Cons happening in Europe now, but I think it\'s a case of the name being franchised out to convention runners there and not strictly organized by the same folks who do the US one.
I\'m a little disappointed about the cancellation of GD Atlanta. I was finally figuring I\'d get around to going to it this year.

The others are too far away from me to justify the time and money for the trip.
