What THEME do you want for the next swap?

Figured we might as well see what everyone thinks about a theme for the next miniature swap and I know it could probably be done all the quicker without having to reply and just do a quick \'click\' for a poll and be done with it.

Pick one below that you\'re interested in, and if its not there, vote \'other\' and give an idea. This of course isn\'t the end all, be all of it - just trying to get some idea and direction with this. If someone else feels that I\'m stepping on toes or wants to pop up until TJeffers is back around, I\'ll be more than happy to shut my gob.

:p

I voted for Sci-Fi because that\'s what I\'ve got the most of and would be willing to swap, but maybe something like an all LotR swap, or swapping minis from a same army to maybe sell the painted result on eBay to donate for a humanitarian cause or something in that line would be a better idea.

I voted fantasy but I realy do not mind I have masses of minis in my stockpile and can probably find something from any of the categories to swap.

I voted for critters! I like critters!:D
Hum ... I think there was already a paint-a-squig thread, do you have another kind of critter in mind :)? Please no Tyranid bio-titan class critter ;).

Oh, I don\'t know, I\'m really not too bothered, but I voted sci-fi, simply because I have more of those with me.

Really I don\'t care though :)

I don\'t really have any \"critters\" or monsters in my stockpile, but it wouldn\'t be a terrible theme since I suspect most other people DO have a few. I voted sci fi though since I have a bunch of those...

I may just barely get my current exchange mini painted in time... I\'m spending too much time playing Half Life 2 :D

Lets see, I vote for fantasy, but I think I\'m happy with anything really. I just need an excuse to paint more fantasy really, and not more witchhunters! It would be cruel if someone sent me a witchhunter model in the exchange, I would cry :(

I\'m glad you like it, but I can take no credit for it when I see what\'s being done in other threads to help out with the recent disaster in Asia. But I think it should be done (who cares about originality ;) ?).

If this idea is OK with everybody, we would then need the list of people participating and the list of the army.

Becca, would you like to keep the list of people up to date or help out with the who\'s doing what part?

I\'ve got most of the WH40K codice, some of the WHFB army books, quite a bit of Rackham references, and a friend has the LotR rules. I could dress up an army list for the members to pick from (and no Witchhunters for Eric ;)), unless somebody else wants to do it.

Oh, and just a quick question before this takes off : do armies sell well on eBay? If yes, then start listing the armies you have that you would care to swap a mini. That way we can see which army to chose.

@Jo : I can already hear you calling for an army of critters ;).

An army idea sounds fun, however it doesn\'t seem like if we do it, that an exchange would be the best fit, as the chance of everyone having the correct mini to send is unlikely at best. So they would end up going to buy the mini then mailing it...so why not just assign people minis from the list and have them get it themselves! (and then doing the normal mini exchange in addition :D).

It would seem we need a small army, and probably from a game which is not squad based for the most part.

Personally I\'d love to do a confrontation wolven warband, and just assign everyone 1 wolven sculpt from the line, there should be enough. (I\'ve yet to paint my first confrontation mini, perhaps I need a kick in the ass). Seem they would sell well online as well.

I think painting up an army and selling it is a good idea, that being said though, I think that should be a seperate \'thing\' we do in another thread and amoungst other individuals.

The mini swap originally was just people just tossing miniatures back and forth at each other to clear out some of their stuff and to see what they get, which is a lot of fun so far and I think we should probably continue in that fashion. Swap something of yours to someone else, paint it up, keep it. If you want to sell it on the side for a cause, that would also be a great idea I\'m sure.

Right now I know there is the Overseas RR (well, for me, you europe folks are carrying one one) and then there is the one on this side that Tab is setting up, then there is the mini swap and if we wanted to, we could make up another one of \'paint an army and sell\'.

Just an opinion.

if you want to make it two seperate things, thats cool, but i think a CMON army would be a great idea to get funds to donate to the cause. if it was 2 seperate things, it would be harder to organize, because that would be another thing people would have to paint, i think if we did it as the swap, just for this go round, it would be tons easier, and it would get done faster, speeding up the sending money process, to those people who need it the most right now.

@greenstuff
how ever you want to do it man, PM or email me.:D

didnt they just release more because of Rag\'Narok or something?
:D

it would be a good warband, ill do some research to see if WH or Confrontation armies sell better, i have a feeling its WH, but ill still check.:D

:EDIT:

alright
after a quick search on the beloved Ebay
i have found.

  • a 2000-3000 point Warhammer Vampire Counts Army selling at $400 dollars
  • a 40K warhammer Dark Angels army, complete with tanks 53 minis in total selling for $304
  • the only confrontation army selling is a +40 piece unpainted mid-nor $50

theres more
and mom thought maybe we could do a warmachine army, there arnt any of those though.

I would say do it seperately, and mainly I will point out that \'not everyone\' is going to want to put time and effort into something that is just going to be sold and donated.

That being said, I\'m not pointing out anyone, or am I being a mercenary and just wanting to keep it all to myself (I will participate in most everything around here), but more to the point, this here originally started out as just swapping and keeping. If you try and make armies out of it, that means most likely people are going to have to go out and BUY the miniature in the first place, of the same army, and then paint it up and send it along to whomever (however that will work). If you commit yourself to painting part of an army, all sorts of strings start getting attached to the process.

This way, with a simple miniature swap, you just dig through your pile, pick out a miniature or two, and send it along with no real strings attached.

@Frustrated Father : whatever you want. Just take the idea as an \"other\" category ;).

If you stick to the swap, I\'ll see how to do the army idea in an other thread (and still take part in the swap ;)).

Oh, I\'m sooo looking forward to this, having missed the first one :)

I chosed Fantasy because that\'s what I have the most. Anything else and I have to buy it (not that I don\'t mind, but see the quote below).

Also, I completely agree with FF:

If things go this way, I\'ll try to get into both things.

Count me in...

I missed out on the first swap so would love to participate in this one. I voted for fantasy as well as that iis the genre for which I have the most miniatures. I could do critters too I guess, but for SciFi I\'ll have to go buy something...

Cheers,
Grumb

Becca and Cedric (ipaintminis and green stuff) are both hot for this army paint up and I\'ve been talking to Becca about it as well, so lets make it a seperate gig and you all can count me in on it when the time comes to get it together.

For now, lets keep the mini swap simple and just send along a minature or two to the next person picked out this next time around. Themes are all well and good, but I got a feeling that it is going to cause more heartache than not really with people so how about we just toss the whole idea out the door on the theme and people just send whatever comes to mind?

Personally, I like the theme idea, but if someone has to run out and purchase a miniature just to participate, I think it kind of goes beyond what this originally started out as. Thoughts on this?

Either way, I\'m happy to participate in anything and everything that goes on with the miniature swaps, round robins, paint an army and charity works so ya\'ll count me in on everything.

Seeing as I\'m on the forums quite a bit of late and vocal I tend to just give my opinion as I see it, so please don\'t take offense if it looks like I\'m trying to steal someone elses thunder or \'be dah\' man\' so to speak. I\'m not ... I just like to see things organized.

Heh ... just ask Tracy (Tab Studios) ... now she has a new website because of my complete bordom and \'neat freakiness ...\'

:D
