How about this, in order to stay in the theme idea, how about magic/psychic or monster/alien. Most people have at least fantasy or sci-fi minis. Crossover themes can fit anybody

I agree to keep them seperate, good call FF, however I look forward seeing the army idea developed, and count me in for both.
What I do think would be kind of fun for the mini exchange (although not this next time around), would be something of a contest. Where you get a mini from someone else, and when you post your results you post the before (as it arrived to you) and after photos. And the criteria for judging is doing the best with what you got, rather than purely based on final product. Just a random thought (I\'m stuck at work where all my thoughts tend to turn random).

my suggestion is jsut to get a totally random model, space marine, wulfen things , what ever you feel the other person might find a challenge
get a list together of people then pair them off to swap minis, then paint the mini, then send it back to the owner.
then weel have some of eachothers work,
a very random idea i know, but hey, its origional, fairly cheap, and i bet no one else is doing it

Took me a while to find 2 cents in the sofa cushions...lol
So here’s my thoughts....I liked the “grab bag” idea of the first Mini Exchange, not knowing what you’ll receive and then having to stretch your talent to paint it to your best.
I’m not to hot on themes...if I don’t have any minis that fit a theme, then I would have to go buy one.

Count me in again whatever you decide, and that goes for the army theme as well I think that is an awesome idea.
I have to agree with FF on the defeating the object line a person should not have to go and buy something to take part and by the same token should not be excluded if he/she does not have a particular themed mini.

@Wolffang- the idea is that you find a minature from your stockpile which you probaly will never paint and everyone else does the same, then a list is organized and everyone sends that minature to the next person on the list. Everyone paints there minature they received and posts a pic. Its not a competition though.

it is a tidy as a cats paw. Nathan (Frustrated Father) has helped provide a really nice place to peruse the fine AAC Round Robins Progress (now 3 minis in route) I have debated the selling of unpainted minis to help the cause of those who need but this idea sounds better and I believe will have more impact.... there is a place at ebay called mission fish to help the sale at ebay as well.
I will gladly start the new thread and we shall see what will develop I will name it

well id be more than glad to join in... but seeing as i dont even have a \"stock pile\" i kinna cant lol... i dont got a digi cam ether... nvm parents would kinna yell at me for giving out adress and what not ... Hola people!
Alrighty, just to sum things up again for people new to the thread and for some questions that are being asked or discussed I\'ll give it a quick go for everyone on the numerous things that are going on around here with the miniatures.
This particular thread is an offshoot of the MINIATURE EXCHANGE thread which I hijacked by accident (I really am sorry). The idea behind the miniature exchange is that most, if not all of us, have miniatures that we purchased and either have moved on and don\'t care for any longer, or just don\'t have the time for, and thus it gathers dust in a drawer somewhere. The idea is that we SWAP our junk for someone elses ... pull something out of your pile and send it on to another person who is participating in this. It isn\'t to each other, but on to someone else. You send to Joe. Joe sends to Jill. Jack sends to you ... etc. You paint it, and you keep it. End of story.
The ROUND ROBBINS (or RR\'s as they cut them down to around here) is where one individual buys a miniature and sends it on to a series of other individuals who are participating (I believe the AAC one hosted by TAB right now has seventeen people participating). The miniature gets completed in stages and sent on to the next person in line (someone paints the skin, someone paints the hair, someone paints the weapon, someone bases it ...). It makes its rounds through the postal system for a few months from person to person until it gets sent back to the original person that purchased it and sent it on its merry way. Great way to see other peoples work in progress. There are three currently in progress right now in the AAC (America, Austraulia, Canada) RR. I personally have a 54mm Inquisition miniature just started.
Now the BUILD AN ARMY FOR CHARITY is something that has just come around in the last day really due mostly in part to \'ipaintminis and green stuff\' and is now being headed up by TAB Studios in another thread as well. Essentially, we\'re going to build an army of miniatures for either the GW or the Rackham line and then sell it online for charity. This is likely going to require the individuals who participate to put out some initial money to buy a figure and then likely mail it on to whomever is going to do the final bit for this. Right now the thread has just started so I\'m sure all the details will be worked out shortly. Truth be told, I\'ve yet to read the thread - onto that after this.
Anyhow ... so those are the different things that are in the works right now ... well actually there are a couple more, as I believe the european folks on here are doing a RR as well so you can certainly check that out as well.
Anyhow, back on track.
So ... themes, yay, nay ... indifferent ... seems we\'ve got a broad base to work from here really. I personally am leaning towards just tossing the whole idea of THEMES right out on its ear as it would uncomplicate something that is supposed to be uncomplicated in the first place (did I confuse you there ... just about did myself).
Lets keep it simple if its all the same with everyone and while we\'re at it, as I discussed in the other thread (boy, is there any way a moderator could combine these threads into one ... might get messy) lets keep to the schedule if we can with January 15th being the \'end\' date and then of course the grace period (basically another sixteen days) until February 1st when the next miniature swap will officially start.
Of course, in that period in between, we\'ll get everyone together that is interested in the next swap (say be the 20th of January), do a random pick of who gets what and where (postage of a miniature from the US to Europe and back again isn\'t all the expensive but we can accomodate for those that have an issue with it) and then get everyone setup. Send along a miniature somewhere during that time and say the first week of February (sooner the better as you give people time to paint it up) and then the exchange will go on until March 15th upon which time we\'ll being setting up another swap.
Of course, real life will get in the way from time to time, so if you don\'t make the \'deadline\' well, really no big deal I would think, just finish it when you can as its all in good fun and no one is really \'winning\' anything here other than perhaps the respect of your peers in some reguard. That being said, if someone recieves but doesn\'t send one along, I think that person should be disallowed from participating in the future (I don\'t honestly think that will be a problem).

well im well up for this minature swap, i think its an awsome idea, and weel get the chance to try out painting some really interesting minis.

I think that the original idea is the best, and apparently FF realized that too.
You just need to send something that you have around, without having to go out and spend some money, and in return you have no idea of what you are going to receive in the mail, kind of like a Christmas present (the good kind of present, not socks or after-shaves).
I also feel that we should emphasize that it\'s not necessary to send more than one mini and/or a very cool/expensive/rare one, in order to prevent excluding people who might feel that they don\'t have one of the above.
