I think comedian Lewis Black says it best in his routine -

When I was little and went to school they taught us to hide under our desk in case of Nuclear attack. We have a mile wide fireball coming at us and they want us to hide under kindling!

Is this so that you get really dizzy, and fall over knocking yourself out in the process. Now you don\'t care you\'re in darkness.

Being in earthquake country we used do this as a drill when I was in school.
