What to do with A pile of Golden Demons & A Slayer Sword

As most of you married men know there are times when comments make you wonder...

We\'ve Got little room in the closet these days & along with the rest of the junk is my Gamesday awards.

The wife had a notion that I should do something with them..

By with them I asked \" you mean display them? \"

\" No \" she said \" they dont match the bedding \"

Well they were just minding their business collecting dust in the closet...

If not to display them you mean pack them up? I asked.

I dont know something......she said

Hmmmm... Im no Banshee but, I do work hard when I do work on a mini so these do represent a great deal of effort.......

For what do I keep them?

Antiques Road show circa 2090?

Does it really matter that I have them?

I have less commissions these days - cost - economy - saturation - European painters that can afford to sell a unit for the price of re-fill of gas.......

I never liked the look of old trophies laying about collecting dust & the occasional comment

Besides running her through, or sticking them where the sun does not shine ( I know you were thinking that )

What to do & why care about them?

I could start slangin them like drugs...

Whoa whoa whoa buddy. You do great work and those trophies prove it man. I got the silver at LA GD last year in Open and I am damn proud of that trophy. It sits at the local game store but I still get comments about it every once in a while. I dont know whats got you down right now but you shouldn\'t just let your trophies go. I know how much work goes into getting those...kinda. Well I know how much work i did with my 4 entries.

I always thought it weird that you kept the trophies... I think it\'d be much better to have one large impressive trophy for each category and you just get your name on it and to keep it for the year.

They are quite ugly too... Maybe you could convert and paint a few?

As long as there is a record, you have something to show your kids and proof that you were there, that you did these things and that you pwn\'d some other painters, the actual trophies are just \"things\".

recieving my bronze demon was one of the proudest days of my life. It spent 6 months at the local store and now has pride of place in my display cabinet.

You know the amount of works that you put in to get them, so show them off. Please don\'t sell them, they will have no real value to the buyer.

If they have no value to the buyer, then there will be no buyer. My name is Dan Byer, but most people spell it \"Buyer\" or \"Byers\" so clearly he\'s gonna make a ton of money on eBay.

In a slightly more serious note: I\'ve always wanted to make a 40k Demon World table, with the statues everywhere in temples and stuff. But I only have 2 so far, so it would be a pretty barren table.

I think I forgot where the serious part was supposed to come in. I\'m gonna go fondle my trophies and go to bed

Heh, my Youngbloods trophies are even uglier than the adult ones lol I\'m still proud of them, though - much better than a certificate.

I know the feeling. I\'m very proud of every demon I have won, but I don\'t have much attachment to the trophies themselves. They\'re just big lumps of resin that don\'t match my decor (I don\'t have much geeky stuff on display in my house).

Most of my demons are away in a box but storage space is at an extreme premium in my house. What to do?

I could sell them but then I\'d spend the rest of my days being labelled as a total jerk for doing so. I dunno... for me, the prize is the achievement, not the physical object (that said, the slayer sword would be on display if I ever won it).

Both Obviously having won the competition is the best feeling, but I think it\'s nice to have something tangible and unique as a record of the achievement.

Mine sit in my painting hut gathering dust, the sword still in its cardboard cover getting rusty.
The wife will not let me put it on the wall anywhere in the house.:flame:
I think the achievement is much more satisfying than the trophies. I like to win, simple as that.

keep the sword tim, as that\'s a wicked trophey.
sell the resin along with some of your paint jobs mate.
if they are just taking up storage space then you may as well make a few bucks as well as clear the space.

I\'d find local game stores willing to display the trophy along with the mini that won it. Figure you\'d probably be able to get some free storage that way!

A chunk of resin is not a real \"prize\" for winning, it\'s not worth much, if at all. It\'s what the trophy stands for that counts.

I have 1 of mine at the local game store, and the other 8 at home on my bookshelf collecting dust. Does that mean I should get rid of them? I would say not.

I kept every piece I entered into the demons, regardless if it won or not, with the exception of an Excorcist that won a silver in 05. It was a commission that was scheduled to be mailed away a few weeks after, and I figured I would enter it for lack of a better submission in that category. When I got back to Arizona I looked all over at local stores for a new Exorcist to paint and replace it for the customer, so I could keep the piece that won. I was not able to find one (since this after GW had recalled all the Exorcists), so I had to ship it away. It was pretty disappointing, and I wish I was able to find a new one at the time.

They are something that I do not want to part with, just because of what it means to me, and are a symbol of my accomplishments. Think of what they actually mean to you, and I think you will understand. Keep them.

Or maybe hack the base off and use him as a Demon Prince/Greater Daemon in your games That could be fun too!

Anyway I agree with the sentiment that the trophy isn\'t as important as the accomplishment... the meaning > the object itself.

i\'d use a trophy for an open entry for next year. have the special ed daemon slayer dead on the ground and the daemon standing over him, victorious! served the stunty blighter right

Keep\'em Dude. My wife and I agreed that our nerdy stuff should be displayed in the home office. That\'s where my 2 demons sit. They are ensconced next to a porcelain J.T. Kirk statue. The sword is flat and would probably store well. The statues can be put into a smallish box. You may want them later, or may wind up in a bigger home with a room just for this sort of thing.

4 GDs and a bunch o\' lil bricks would make some wiked chaos temple terein. build, sell = more minis and paint bucks.

Hmm, some wise words here, the trophies are pretty ugly all said and done, if you can make a buck, then do so. At the same time, I hope your wife understands the love , time and effort they represent, if not, then maybe you\'ll find a use for that sword:twisted:

Mine sit on top of my display case..my slayer trophy hangs on the wall in my studio room.
