What to do with Mr. Spinetail?

Apologies for the crappy photos. Need some help. I have tried to make him look dirty and a bit disgusting. And tried to make his amour rusty. I'll do some more with the eye, and the stone in the sword, and some more highlights. But my two major concerns is the handle of the sword, how should I paint it? not that i made in wood, but the metal part, and the part around the stone? Anoyone got any advice?

Looking good, as for the sword hilt / handle perhaps go with a weather brass look with verdigris effect?
