you can try brake fluid, it even works on plastic, although don\'t leave it in there for over a day or 2 as i did once, starts to melt it a bit

There is paint remover that comes in a jar that you can dip the mini in and then leave it a couple of hours. I can\'t remember what it\'s called but they should sell it in your nearest arts and crafts store if you ask. btw, it\'s pretty darn toxic, so wear plastic gloves when handling.

I tried Dettol, once. It made a gloopy, plasticky mess that stuck to the mini, my hands, the toothbrush, and I had to strip the mini using brake-fluid anyway. Never again.

These days, my choice is saturated caustic soda. Yep, that drain cleaning stuff. Two hours in caustic soda, and the paint is peeling away from the mini. Oven cleaners have the same sort of effect, since they also work because of their caustic nature.

If you want many, many answers on mini stripping, do a search on it. Lots of threads have dealt with this subject before.

Yep Dettol is the answer you were looking for.
It\'s probably the safest thing for you to use, and won\'t get your mother screaming at me for telling you to use something toxic and risky.
What figure are you intending to clean back to metal?

@Modderhu: The only reasons I can think of that Dettol was so :|~ on stripping your mini is that the paint job was really old or it was a plastic mini.
Plastic doesn\'t quite seem to have the recovery capability of metal but it does come up Grey once again with a little bit of work.

Indeed, it was a plastic mini, fresh paint job. The mini was fine, but that paint turned into an absolute mess. Curious. Plastic minis are the real blighter when it comes to stripping.

Bit late to the post I know

I have spent a couple of months doing the rounds at the supermarket checking out various products. I wanted pretty non-toxic as I have a young daughter.

After all the tests definitely Dettol. Its great because it has pine oil in and you can dilute it and it still works and lasts longer.

You do get a gooey mess, but I have fixed that by scrubbing in a sink filled with hot water and soda crystals which are dirt cheap. Make sure you scrub under the water and wear gloves.

Metal comes up lovely and bright and plastic shines!

I still swear by (and at) oven cleaner. Works on plastic and metal. You have to buy the good stuff like Mr Muscle. Just use it outside and leave it on over night.

Simple Green is the best stuff I\'ve found. No mess, just soak the mini overnight, scrub it with an old toothbrush, and you\'re good as new.

It\'s safe to use and does the job for both plastic and metal.

I personally use brake cleaner i get at a local auto parts store, i have to use a mask because the fumes get really bad, and it dries out my hands and it will melt through plastic containers, im assuming it wont work well on plastic minis, but on metal it works great, with a little scrubbing of course.
