What type of armor?

I am currently working on this model:

I am trying to paint the armor but I can not determine if this is supposed to be metal plates attached to a leather over or what? Leather pads sewn to leather jerkin? Anybody know what it was sculpted as?

looks like it is metal to me, but I suppose it could be either really

Consider the rest of his gear. Leather boots & wicker basket shield. Look like he\'s got a chain shirt on. I\'d imagine those are leather patches. Or maybe he spent all his money on banded armor, which is why the rest of his stuff is lacking

Sorry, my point is, banded (metal) armor would look out of place on him.

It looked like it was painted as copper plate but that could be leather too.

that\'s the big advantage with fantasy minis, no one can tell you that you have painted the wrong uniform, or his equipment is the wrong material.
