What was your first Mini ever?

The first minis that I owned were the ones in Heroquest, but my Dad painted them all for me in super quick time bless his soul.

I think the first I painted was a lead skeleton archer from GW. I\'ll try and find a picture of the model itself online, but I\'ve lost the one I painted years ago.

The first minis I ever painted were from the old West End Games line of Star Wars miniatures battles. I had a decently sized force of stormtroopers that I painted with oil based testors enamels. Good for me at the time as I was about 9 but in retrospect they look like crap now.
Hey, strip \'em with oven cleaner and have another go!

I think my first minis were lead figures I cast in shop class in grade 7. Terrible detail (not spin-cast) and I painted them with... Testor\'s enamels of course! lol I don\'t even know why my shop class HAD mini molds...

Wait....that Haldir was the first mini you ever painted? If so I believe I speak for everyone on the forums when I say \"you suck!\" Seriously, that mini is incredible. Wonderful work, I am jealous.
You and I didn\'t have the resources kids have today. I used to paint my minis with plastic brushes and enamel paints and I used a pin to paint the eyes.
I didn\'t hear about dry brushing until I was in college.
Now there\'s the internet and people can learn about layering, wet blending etc. before they ever pick up a brush (a kolinsky sable brush too, probably).

Testor enamels were the thing, weren\'t they? I remember first picking up a couple of the old partha paint pots in the early nineties and trying to get the hang of it. No internet to use yet, no advise from anyone. My brother\'s first mini, which he painted with me sitting there guiding him through the process, must be ten times better than my first mini. Ah well...

The first minis I remember buying were a blister of clerics when I was about 10 - I\'ve no idea who they were by or even why I chose them. I wasn\'t even interested in painting them back then - I mostly used Star Wars figures for \"roleplaying\" at the time. The first minis I remember painting would have been from the Citadel Monster set - see \"Flea the Ogre\" in my gallery for a more recently painted version of one of the minis in it. I\'m fairly certain the first I painted was the lesser goblin (he was smallest so i thought he\'d be quick to finish. I still have that mini but it\'s on its third or fourth paintjob now with no evidence of its less-than-humble beginnings.

Sorry no pic :)

First mini I painted, I think was my female elf bladesinger for AD&D (2.0) back in 98 or 99. See EricJ\'s first, and that\'s on par with what mine looked like lol

I remember painting a basilisk (for that same character\'s party) in 5 minutes. My friends STILL rib me for that one to this day. When I turn in a new one for the group, or for one of them for their character, they\'ll say \"Well, it certainly isn\'t as good as your basilisk...\" then they\'ll all laugh, and I have urges to stab them.

Mine was the one piece plastic skaven, painted with thicker than tar humbrol enamels (that were NOT thinned!)and with a 20p brush from the newsagents uuurgh!!!

Wish I still had them to show to new\'uns now, and so they could see how much youcan improve with a bit of practice and the right tools

Technically, the first minis I painted were those 1/72 plastic airfix figures. I had many different types, my favourites though were the Robin Hood figures, of which I painted a bunch. Done with humbrol enamels and toothpicks (!) instead of brushes at the age of about 7-9. I might try and see if I can find them and take some pics..

First more \"serious\" attempt and first try at 28mm minis was done at age 14, in the autumn of 2000. It was a couple of bretonnian archers from the paint set GW sold back then.

The first mini I painted is unfortunately lost to time, I painted many minis back in those far off days involving Transformers, GI Joe and watching Monster Squad on VHS all the time.

I guess the fist minis I painted were almost definatly Games Workshop and (if I remember rightly) were either ninjas, a skeleton wearing a space suit or eldar harlequins. With Humbrol enamel paints and weird quick drying acrylic paints that destroyed the brushes.
