What went wrong?

Around the same time the Marines got Bling, the orcs got huge and fearsom instead of funny and amusing and Halflings ceased to exist.

I have a love of the old ogres as well. The second one you linked is one of my favorite minis of all time. I still have one I paid way too much for at a con, and still haven\'t painted as I want my skill level to be higher to give it justice.

I completely agree with you. And that not only goes for the ogres in my opinion but for most of what GW makes. Being an avid fan of Vampire Counts, I can\'t begin to explain how disappointed I was when the characters went from pretty kool looking vamps (Von Crasteins and Blood Dragons) the the crap that is out now. Also the fact that they made the grave guard look like bunnies and not to mention completely ridiculous looking units such as the corpse cart. My second favorite army being the empire. I like the \"Germanic\" feel of the previous edition of the army. Now they just look like monkeys. Same with the Bretonnians.

hmm.. well as GW has explained there are several different kinds of ogres. So the old concepts might come back under new guises.

However I like the new concepts as well, works better as an army comparing to the older mercenary style.

I ilke the new ogres and almost invested in a few had I not a million and one other things to paint.
Even though I\'ve a few of the old-skool ones you like Rev, I think the new ones are pretty smart and a move on from the old cartoony style of the past.

I bought the Beasts of Chaos box a few years ago, and even though I thought I did a decent-ish job on the paintwork, have to admit, the Chaos Ogres are a pile of kak!

GW saw a way to make money with a new army.
But, Yes the Older Style had class, but they were made back in a time long, long ago when Games Workshop were able to support a sense of humour instead of a bunch of money leeching capital investors.

I much prefer the new style of Ogres. I was not a fan of the old school GW models from the era of smiley orcs and stuff. Just not my thing. I think the newer ogres look more dangerous.

That\'s my view on it. You\'re welcome!lol

I guess it\'s a matter of taste. I like my ogres mean and ready to eat. But then, I\'m not a fan of most oldskool GW stuff; that\'s actually what kept me away from them until I was older.

HERE HERE! I wonder if they expect us to add the humor to model? I say bring us back a little of the comedy.

I think they have as much dark humor in their miniatures now as ever, it\'s just that the style is less comical. If that makes sense.

There is a reason I collect old Citadel miniatures. I find they don\'t rank as high on here, but they are so much fun to paint, and have so much character.

I\'m a grumpy old man in a young man\'s body. Haha.

just to pump my posts I\'m going to disagree and say that I think the new ogres are way cooler looking than the old ones. To me an ogre is a man eating killer not a guy to be laughing at. However i will say that i think the older mini\'s have more character than the new box set mini\'s but to me the character is off...
