What went wrong?

I\'ve got quite a few of the old Ogres, and they did have class.

I don\'t hate the new ones however, they are just different.

Here\'s a few of mine to shamelessly pimp:

But seriously, look at that character! I love that face.

And the first mini I ever posted on the site:

Vike, when are you going to paint up the ones I sent you? :p

My favorite from the old days was the one with the plate armor on. LOVED him!

The new ones, while well sculpted, are very potbellied looking, which I don\'t care for. Or the look to their faces which make me think of Ghengis Khan or something. Not a huge fan.

Although I got one recently for my Snotling army...MWA HA HA HA!

I think the SJB one is utterly fantastic, I really hope he can make one without the OK gutplate and get away with selling it for Spyglass or whatever he calls his company now :D

Anyway the plastic Ogre Kingdom models aren\'t terrible, but they do lack the character of the old ragtag mercenary ogre types.

The real metal Maneaters (and not the conversions you posted Rev) are really quite good and maintain the ragtag, comical feel but with a much harder edge to them.

The Maneater pirate and his grumpy Gnoblar dressed in a parrot suit? Pure class!

I own a great book entitled \'Grumpy Old Men: A manual for the British malcontent\'.

It\'s full of common sense gems such as:

\"All teenagers should be shot into space until they reach their mid-20s\"

and

\"Pizza delivery boys: People with bad skin who deliver food that looks like bad skin\"

and

\"Ikea: Why not save time by smashing up your own furniture and then sending the Swedish embassy a cheque for ten thousand pounds?\"

Found a picture of the group we\'re discussing. Love the individuality of these.

Only a couple TRULY got my interest, though.

No. 09 is my favorite. Even painted it MANY years ago.

I love the old ones! The only one I have left is the old Skraag the Slaughter, the others regretted trades long ago.
I like them for their individuality, or for Mordheim-equivalent warbands, or RoC warbands from long ago.

That said, I think the Ogre Kingdoms Bulls are really nice too, especially if you want to rank them up. I like the oriental steppe motiff too. My only turnoff is the body-piercing/self mutilation thing that some of the characters have.

I like the old and the new! Each serve a different purpose. Mixing the styles might be a bit off, but both styles seem to be pretty representative of what an ogre should be...

the yettees suck as far as i am concerned. as for the rest...i love them all. except skrag.... the new moulds are great and offer for a ton of conversion possibilities. i dont mind them getting more realistic..... its the natural progression of art in any genre. eventually it will begin to get abstract and then cartoony again.... at one point we will see equal amounts of all the different genres.

The old Skrag is my favorite. The new one is undesirable.

I DO want the cauldron he has, though.

Bottom left on the first one, just had a bid accepted on ebay. The second lot, just missed the feller in the middle at the bottom. Gutted, as that\'s the one I really wanted. Nice to see Vikey\'s pieces. Old school!

The old ogres are truely lovely - so much more character. I\'m not sure that they are comical, just more interesting and individual.

I have numbers 10 and 12 from way back when and seeing these pics kinda makes me want to dig them out and give them a brush licking :D

EDIT: Oh and theBob Olley ones are shown on the black and white pic ;)
